Gun control doesn't prevent law abiding citizens from acquiring or keeping guns. But easier for criminals to obtain guns because of weak gun control. In the US, states with stronger gun control tend to have lower rates of gun violence than states with weak gun control. For example, California suicide and homicide rates are far lower than the national average. If US has California gun death rate in 2020, over 16,000 lives could be saved. Every state with lower gun death rates have gun control as strict or stricter than California according to University of California study.
