That's funny. I was just about to say that I can probably guarantee that there are at least some gangs in St. George. St.George is a whole lot closer to Vegas than it is Salt Lake City. 
While we're on the subjectz if you're ever in the St.George region, specifically Hurricane, Utah, and if you love coffee, check out River Rock Roasting Company in La Verkin. I randomly, maybe subconsciously, wore my River Rock hat today. I hadn't considered the significance until my wife asked if I wore it because of this incident.
If we're talking the same thing, it's some good hiking a little west of the city. Might even technically be in the city limits. If you've been to/through Southern Utah/Norther Arizona, etc, you wouldn't be blown away per se. If you haven't, I suggest visiting some of these places. Even just the Grand Canyon if you haven't been.

St.George is a retiree area, Washington County is pretty much Hurricane and St.George, neither have a heavy hispanic population, its 80% white and 10% hispanic with an aveage age of almost 40. That area is very conservative but less than to the north of the state and especially say Cedar City.
That kid had a very strict upbringing, how he would be in a gang with those parents is a bit of a long shot stretch.
Again, nobody is saying he was in an actual gang. I'm saying there are reports than he was a part of the LGBTQ community. That's the gang.
I've been to/through St.George many of times. You pass though it going to many of the Utah parks on the most common route from the Bay. Even since I have lived in Oregon, I have came though that region via 15 from the north but then left via 15 heading southbound to stop in Vegas.
With that said, things change WSC. Any area with a 10% hispanic population (not counting Cubans, etc) has gangs. That's not racism. It's a fact. There are 13's as far as Montana now. They are definitely in Southern Utah.
Well one thing is for sure if there is a way to connect him to the left and libs there are thousands of super sleuths working on making it a reality even if it isnt.
That kid does not look like a gang member or a lefty or anything outside of a dummy who does not understand the impacts of their anger and acting out. He looks like most any kid his age that you would see on that campus. I have family and friends living there in Orem/Provo and I spent time there myself but that is not something I am going to get into of course.
I don't believe he is in a gang. The gang reference was to the LGBTQ+ community. The alphabet gang. I saw a picture of him rocking both a traditional gay pride flag AND a trans flag. To be clear, I have no axe to gring against that community. I support that community. I just find it noteworthy that some recent attacks have been carried out by members of that community. Ironic.
To your first point, it goes both ways. How many times have we seen super slueths speed run connecting the attacker to anything conservative? To Maga? Rarely does anyone on either side cares about the victims. It's all political footballs. It's all b.s.
I think it has been established that he is radical left, though. Whatever that means to whoever. People close to him have said as much. With that said, to WSC's point, in that region, it wouldn't take much to be labeled "radical left". So who knows. The truth of many of these recent cases, the common thread, are sad, damaged, confused individuals. Kids. None of this stuff is really about politics.

Some are saying he only went to USU for one semester and then went on an LDS mission which would make sense with how devout his family is and his upbringing. I do not see him as radical anything, at a maximum he did not understand the implications of his differences with Kirk. The more that social media deadens responsibility and accountability the more often we will see this happen.
The LDS church already threw out their PR which of course is to CYA on a family who are devout members.
I don't think he was a radical anything either. Just a confused kid, probably carrying around a lot of internal struggle and pain.
I think labels are too quickly attached, often where they may not fit. Definitely some good words spoken by you all.
One of the stations had a podcaster on who had a very succinct explanation on social media algorithms being set to loop "injustice" to invoke the anger emotion because that garnered the most engagement which garnered the most money.
That's pure evil and corruption of the young and if it's accurate this young man spent 12-14+ hours a day isolated.......its sad
Certainly though he did a radical thing whether internally struggling or not.
