They walked in lock-step to the window.
They handed over their bets on the Cavs -16/-16.5/-17! with their capping cards.
The ticket-maker gave them their bet.
They looked forward and made sure their capping card was squarely placed on the counter.
The ticket-maker then dipped his stamp in the blood-red dye.
The word "SQUARE" was ready to be stamped on the card.
A record breaking spread, almost certainly never to be seen again in our lifetime for a #1 seed, gone forever after tonight.
Except the ticket-maker was not to stamp the card, he took his stamper and placed it squarely....in the middle of the Cavs backers foreheads.
For tonight, they ate drank and were merry at halftime, only to find themselves drowning in the book's pool of Square bankroll blood as the 4th quarter ticked away like the drops in a hospital IV bag.
Tonight they laid 16+, and lost outright.
Tonight they learned...or maybe they learned nothing at all.
No matter, the rivers of bankroll blood will spill some more in a forthcoming day.
But not ours...not ours...

Thanks guys
This game, more than any other in recent memory, polarized this board where Celtics backers gawked at those laying 16+ and Cavs backers sneered at Boston backers and didn't think the line that the books could set could be big enough, 16 being paltry.
But with a line like 16, even if you are up 16 at the half (the Cavs were) it doesn't mean much.
And the Cavs played a near flawless first half scoring 66, shooting 60% from the floor AND from 3, and still LOST the game.
That is the power of a spread like this.
We all know this though! We talk about big spreads all the time.
But the beatdown in Game 2 (and dominance of game 1) and coming home to Cleveland seduced half this board into laying an unconscionable number to a #1 seed, albeit one without their leading scorer.
