    30-31

    2017 Playoffs: 11-6

    The Pick:

    Celtics +16 over Cavs

    Reasons

    1. A Record-Breaking Line

When lines break records, you have to give them a long look.

We don't even need to research it. When in the world has a #1 seed gotten a line like this, injuries or otherwise? This has never happened.

And not only is it a record-breaking line, but I guarantee this line absolutely SMASHES the previous record that a #1 seed received.

So it's not only a record, it's a record shooting to the moon.

And when you take that line, you get all that history. NEVER in history has a #1 seed gotten a line like this. And we likely will never see it again. Because Lebron is THAT special a player and they just won by a mind-boggling 46.

On this basis ALONE. it has to be looked into a a play.

    2. +16

Now outside of the fact the line breaks records, what is the spread itself?

    +16.

WOW. That's the only word that comes to mind.

Folks, you know I have talked about how valuable spreads are when they get to numbers like this. Spreads around zero? 1,2,3? Not valuable on either end.

    Spreads > 10/11/12!/13!!!/Even14!!!!/And yes15!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

    INCREDIBLY VALUABLE!!!

Why? Because unless there is a personal vendetta (like the Warriors vs. the Clippers where they try to KILL them EVEN in the preseason) teams rest players with the game well in hand and lay off late. We ALL know this.

Look at game 1 where there Cavs won by 13. The Cavs had that game more than well in hand the entire time and then came off the gas late winning by a more than respectable 13.

And 13 isn't 16 folks. And that is why numbers like 16 are so valuable. Because Vegas tacks on these points at the high end against ultra-dominant teams to cover their as*. Look at tonight with the Warriors.

118-100 with 2 minutes left. Warriors lay off and it ends 120-108.

Again, 16 gets you there when things like this happen!

To give you perspective as to how high a spread like this is, the Sixers, in the year they lost 26 in a row (a team that is considered one of if not the worst ever) received a spread of 20.5 from the Spurs on a B2B after playing the high-powered Rockets, the highest spread Vegas gave out that season.

That's only 4.5 points more than this spread with a #1 seed IN THE PLAYOFFS. Thomas in or out, this is a VERY competent well-coached team that shoots a ton of 3's and can backdoor any spread like this! That can get us within 16 folks.

And this is the PLAYOFFS. Points are IMMENSELY MORE valuable than the regular season here. And you get the upper, upper, upper bound her (I had to say it three times because this really is a #1 vs. #8 number with #1 giving it out). Books HATE to give out more than 17 except to the worst of the absolute worst in a bad spot. We get 1 point off that if we take this number. The Celtics can muster SOMETHING to get under this number IMO!

    3. A Historic beating

No team was ever down by 41 after 2 quarters in the playoffs.

It's a more than common angle to take a team to bounce back with this type of insurance, even with the injury, even against the Cavs. We don't have to win. Just lose respectably.

    4. Lebron on the road

He's openly stated he loves playing on the road and wanted to continue his winning streak of winning at least one road game in a playoff series (and did so in 2 big ways).

Now he goes home. I am NOT saying he's relaxing. I am saying that there isn't much more of a statement to be made than crushing a team by nearly 50 on their home floor. Therefore, the 16 comes into play. Cavs can win comfortably and we can still cover. (Do I sound like a broken record yet? I'm trying to drive the point home).

    5. JR with the sweeping motion in the middle of the game

With all the social media available, is there anything more motivating to save face than after looping that on your phone as a Celtic 10,000 times?

    6. Thomas

Yes we don't have him. Yes he matters. Yes he is extremely important and yes I played the Warriors laying 6 because I bet Kawhi was out tonight.

But folks, I'm getting TEN MORE POINTS than 6 and I sure as HELL would not have laid 16 to the Spurs at home, on the road or in Kalamazoo.

    This is a big number.

    This is a HISTORIC number.

Brad Stevens knows they can't win the series. He's asked his team to do ONE thing in the post-game: COMPETE.

With 16, that is all we are asking them to do, and you cannot play much worse than last game. Further, the Cavs can't play much better. Merge somewhere between 0 and 16 and we win.

What is more beautiful than a drop-dead gorgeous woman? This line comes close! Take em both (except Buffer, because we know he likes Kyle Korver as a Tom Cruise lookalike).

Like the write-up Scal but I'd rather wait for a bigger line in game. Cavs will be leading by 6-12 points at some point in the first half which should net you a better line. Bol

You're getting 10 more points than you'd be uncomfortable with at 6. Why does that matter when their best scorer who avgs 20 pts a game won't be playing?

This Celtics team is bad on the road, replay Wizards series. Their game doesn't travel. I don't even think Cle needs to try to blow them out; the difference between the two in talent is light years apart.

    Who's scoring for Bos?

    Did you assess all this?

Bos was missing wide open shots last 2 games.

    Cle playing a JV team.

What incentive does the Celtics have to compete when the series is over?

Like Barkley and the crew say

    1.2.3.Cancun!!! lol

I said if it gets to 16 that's good enough for me. I have to write-it up at some point and cut off the line. And that is what it is on 5 Dimes right now. If you want to wait for more, that is perfectly acceptable.

Did I assess this? Well no, I mean I only have a write up that goes on for 2 pages right? I've assessed nothing. I haven't seen an NBA game all year.

Do you even know what 16 means in regard to what you say? No, you don't. You have zero clue how big that spread is . All you think about is a 46 point win and salivate. You have said NOTHING that justifies laying 16. Nothing, other than "Who score for Boston" lol. As though IT is the only scorer.

Kid run along. Seriously. When you have a substantive argument, present it. This is crap.

I think olynyk breaking loves arm in 2014 makes it very personal.

But 16 is a lot of points and a back door is very possible.

If it was personal, that score was settled in the Game 2 as*kicking.

Scalabrine if this line is Boston+19 I would definitely agree with you 100% but +16 I just feel it's just not enough without IT playing.  Anyone who likes Boston should just wait for live betting to get Boston+19 or better or maybe have opportunity for half time betting.  I feel that Clev will still try to start strong taking a fairly big lead during 1st H of the game and anyone liking Boston will have a better opportunity to get a better line in live betting or get better line at half time.  Bolta I already locked in my bets for 1st H Clev-9.5 and Clev-15.5 during the GS game.  I will try for a middle in this Boston/Clev game in live betting if I get Boston+19 or better cause I feel a back door cover with 19pts is definitely within reach.

+19 is outrageous. That would not only be the biggest line given to a #1 seed that would be top 3 biggest playoff lines ever, if not the biggest ever (I've never seen such a line in the playoffs).

19 is ASKING WAY too much.

Gambling: an hard way to make an easy living. This line makes it tougher than 19 and you'll have to live with it or see it top out at 17.

My argument doesn't need to be pages long to be good. It is to the point and the basis is reality and the eye test. If Bos was a better team I could see them covering but it's hard to see it. Maybe I'm wrong. But, we will see who's the kid after GM 3.

Masterkush after watching the first two games i have to agree olynyk is still a very hated man by the entire cavs team i mean two historic first half beatdowns and have not let off the gas pedal at all .. but still 17 or 18 points in a playoff game is unheard of .. what are you gonna get for first half 11 points? at this point if your lue all you want to do is stay healthy and get out of there with a win .. you have to take the points when the spread is this high imo

I'm not expecting Boston+19 all I'm saying is I believe you will get this line in live betting or a better if you really like Boston and I honestly don't feel Boston+16 is enough for backdoor cover.  I believe this line open Boston+13.5 and I know line will never move to Boston+19 cause IT being out isn't ever going be worth that many points for the books to adjust to that.  In live betting if I'm right that Clev will come out hard to set the tone it is definitely realistic we will see Boston+19 during 1st H of live betting.  Like I said I will most likely attempt to middle this game with Boston+19 or better using in live betting.

.... Who cares about 16 in the Spurs gsw game
Not even 6 or 16 or 32 would've helped you in Game 1... 16 is sucker ... Only way they are able to get money on Boston is by setting a big spread ppl like u would jump on. I wouldn't touch Boston not even with your money
