The Cubs got off to a great start this season at 29-16. Then they spent nearly a month under growing criticism as they stumbled and bumbled their way back down to a .500 record following a 3-2 loss to the Rockies in Denver on June 10th. Since then, the Cubs are 18-2 after losing a game, including a perfect 8-0 since the All-Star break. Their last 5 wins following a loss have all been by more than a run.

In late May, when the team was swooning downward from 29-16 to 34-34, they fell to 1-6 following a shutout loss. Then they didn't get blanked again until 37 games later. Since a 3-0 home loss to the Cardinals on July 4th, the Cubs have responded to shutout losses with wins of 6-4, 5-3, and 5-2.
