The Cardinals have been producing offensively and come into today with some legitimate momentum. Yesterday wasn’t just a win they put eight runs on Chicago and hit five home runs

THE CUBS DIDN’T GIVE US A GIFT

Chicago rolled out its real lineup today. No Sunday Bteam, no gift. That’s actually important because I stress-tested the play against their best nine and still found enough value to stay with St. Louis.1H 

WHY THE FIRST FIVE

I’m isolating the part of the matchup I like. Dobbins versus Cabrera, Cardinals bats versus a pitcher returning from a long layoff, and I have the half run in my pocket.

Top half, Cardinals hitting I want Cabrera working. 18-25 pitches in the first. A walk, a couple deep counts, a hit, runners on traffic is excellent even if we strand them. What I don’t want is Cabrera coming off a two-month layoff and throwing an 8 pitch 1-2-3 inning with everything looking effortless. We want St. Louis seeing pitches and making him throw stressful ones

Bottom half, Dobbins…I want strikes and efficiency. Get ahead of hitters, no free passes, keep the ball in the park and don’t let that top of the Cubs order turn over with traffic. A 12-15 pitch clean inning would be perfect. A harmless single doesn’t bother me. What we don’t want is walk, 2-0 counts, 3-2 counts, hard contact and 25 pitches immediately.

EARLY & OFTEN.

The biggest thing with Dobbins is getting through Crow-Armstrong, Suzuki, Bregman and Happ without a fn crooked number. That’s the dangerous spot of Chicago’s lineup. If he navigates that first trip cleanly, I’ll feel way fn relieved

There’s nothing else I can do with this game now. All the fucking theory, numbers and stress testing I put together have to come into play at some point.

At least I feel better that I had a little more time to really work through it instead of rushing.

Anyway, I guess that’s why they play the fucking game.
