I have recently had a problem with BetED too and closed my account. Customer service and management were very unprofessional and attacked me personally even though the error was on their end. The BetED site's interface malfunctioned on me and they refused to honor a 2-team parlay for me too during the NBA playoffs but it was NOWHERE near what you have 'won'.

Wish there was a different sportsbook sponsoring the Streak Survivor contest! (hint, hint, Lou) Oh well, never had a problem with my other 4 books though and three of them are Covers sponsors so hooray! (BetPhoenix #1!!, BetJamaca, BetUS)

Not to mention the ridiculous staking plan. $500 on a 10 teamer across two sports, but only slightly more than half that on a 2 teamer the next day when he had just won 217K.

If I had won huge the previous day, I would definitely be having more than a $264 baseball two teamer the next day.

    Smells mighty fishy to me.

what should he do? start placing $10,000 parlays cause he won all that money!!! you continue to bet the way you normally bet. why should he give it all back? i don't think that that is a dumb move!!! $264.00 parlay is a pretty healthy wager, maybe, just maybe he is playing it safe!!!

If this were me, here's what I'd do.

1- Make damn sure I have gotten the money and exactly, to the penny, how much.

2- Consult with an international tax accountant OR find a damn good local guy who has a specialty in taxation. My guy has his masters in public tax. If he doesn't know, he'll steer me in the right direction.

3- Have that accountant calculate the amount, exactly, what my tax exposure will be.

4- Consult with the accountant and possibly my attorney about the advantages and disadvantages of having an LLC or Corporation dedicated for this transaction. Maybe there is a tax pass thru if I get the bookie to pay it to that sort of entity.

5- Once I've established the tax liability amount, I'd drop that into a cd or money market fund. I'll get interest, not much, and in the meantime, I may find some opportunities to write off expenses. Frequently people pay the IRS their tax money straight away and it's a helluva lot harder to get your money back from them than it is to pay. They don't want the cash until 4/15, or 3/15 if you're a corporation, so why not make a few bucks off of what will be their money?

6- Transfer the remainder, whether it's in $10K increments or less, into my brokerage account.

7- I have no debt currently, but if I did have interest bearing debt, I'd pay it off. There is no sense paying money to owe money.

8- Leave out 25% of what's left over in cash.

9- Invest the remaining 75% into CLF, ISRG, a small amount of OREX and GES or some other retailer. Put a downward and an upward limit on each one and then forget about it.

    10- Spoil myself with a ___________________??

Why the fuck would/should he play it safe when he has just won $150K. That's called being a box. So you are OK with him having $500 parlays prior to him wining 6 figures, but then you should think he should turn box after cashing that large ticket?

Until you win $150K what makes you think you should be offering this guy advice? This guy wins $150K and for some ridiculous reason you think he wants/needs your gambling advice. How deluded is that? You should be asking him for advice.

The only good advice offered has been from those recommending that he seek tax advice and other assistance on how to get his money with the least Govt interference.

IronPicks if your this good @ hitting parlays, why don't you post your plays so we can see how you are on a consistent basis. If your for real congrats but maybe start up a daily parlay thread or even post your play on Willbet's thread...

    Hey Syddigs,

I was just being consistent with the prior sentiments regarding not giving it back.  Your right, I dont know him, but Im 99.9% sure he will give it all back and more if he continues to try hit large parlays. Ive seen the best go down in flames after big hits.  Its truly an enigma how it happens, but it does.  The gambling gods giveth and then they take awayeth.

In saying that, as I said previously, I do think that BetED should credit his acct the remaining balance, or at least some of it, and attach a rollover clause to it so that he can play with money that he rightfully won but will not receive due to their ( and most books ) max payout rules.

Your second paragraph is flat out stupid, if he should have known according to you, why would they give him credit. That point is nonsensical.

With regard to your first point, someone said they read the rules and the 150k limit is not clearly indicated OR it was not BEFORE the hit. In either event, not much contribution in your attempt to call me wrong.

    SMALL UPDATE

    The Good.
Beted.com has shown awesome customer service so far.
I'm sure it has to do with the unique situation, but props to them for the awesome service, anyways. After those early 24hrs where I didn't get any response from them, and I was scared thinking I was being blown away, everything has been great. It was all validating and making sure it was a genuine winning bet.
My account is fully cleared. I can bet normally, No restrictions, All good.
The accounts manager personally called me to congratulate me and talk about my withdrawal options. All is good.

    The not so Good.
Unfortunately, they will not make any exception for my account. I will not get a large lump sum of the money like I wanted. I'm forced to receive the weekly $3000 limit. That's it. Not negotiable.
Don't get me wrong, $12,000 a month will make me think my day job is a waste of time, but I had important plans that involved having the larger sum available in the coming weeks. Not happening. Move on.

    The Bad
Regarding my transaction, nothing so far.
I'm not going to go all out and personally recommend the site, since I haven't received a penny yet. But everything has worked out fine so far.

They still need to fix that misleading limit in the software. I couldv'e won the same $150,000 limit making an 8 team bet and still wouldv'e won the same max $150K, but instead my odds were much worst in a 10-teamer. That glitch in the software only benefits them, and hurts the player that believes he will get the payout their software says they will win.

    Sidenotes
Thanks for everyone's advice, getting an accountant is great tip.

    A few things:
I WILL pay my taxes, I'm not crazy. This could turn into a horror story if I don't.
I WILL visit an accountant to clarify a few questions I still have, and to see what is my best move in this situation.
I WILL (at least for the near future) use a 2nd book for some of the  betting I do. My trust in Beted.com is still good, I will still support them, but I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket. Is unlikely I will win this big again, but if I win any large bet again I would want it to be in a different book, at least for the next 12-13 months. (damn 3k limit!).

I WILL NOT be playing anymore $500 10-team parlays again, of course.

    1. after I saw this thread and read their rules I didn't see any $150k Max payout. On the same hand I didn't see 3K per week payout but I just scanned through.

    2. 12k a month is great take it all day long.

    3. set up an off shore account with a tie in ATM account in the US. j/k I am sure your accountant will advise you better but hire a good one.

    4. smart paying your taxes. and be sure to track you bets this year and deduct your loses.

    5. I hope in 2 years you are still enjoying your funds.
