It might not have been Kimi Antonelli front and center, but the Mercedes engine continues to dominate the F1 season.

George Russell picked up the pole for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, keeping Mercedes as the only car to own the pole in every race so far this season.

A resurgent Lewis Hamilton was less than a tenth of a second off the pace and will start on the front for the first time this season.

As for wonderkid Kimi Antonelli, his bid for a sixth straight F1 checkered flag will come from the 3-spot.

Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix picks and predictions

Race prediction: Lewis Hamilton to Win (+614)

George Russell has not stood on the podium since a second-place finish in China in the second.

He’s struggled in Montreal (where he had the pole) and Monaco, finishing outside the Top 10.

That uncertainty has me betting upset (with very nice odds) to Lewis Hamilton, who has been making major strides in the Ferrari.

He has back-to-back second place finishes before a second-place spot in qualifying in Barcelona.

He’s familiar with the track too, sharing the record with Michael Schumacher for most career wins at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with six.

Those were all while driving Mercedes. Perhaps the breakthrough comes at the expense of his former team.

Best bet: Oscar Piastri Podium Finish (+426)

If you are looking for a lock, there's no shame in taking Kimi Antonelli to finish on the podium at -300 odds.

But I’m keeping my bets on a longshot level this week, which is why I’m taking a stab at last year’s winner Oscar Piastri finding the podium, at heavy plus odds.

It feels like forever, but it was just last year that it was the McLaren guys’ world.

Things change fast in F1, as Piastri has yet to start on the front row in 2026, and has just two podium finishes on the year.

But he knows how to win on this track, and the McLaren is among the best cars on sweeping sectors on high energy tracks like Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya provides.
