The NBA odds board has 11 games in action Wednesday night, including the high-scoring Atlanta Hawks catching the Cleveland Cavaliers defense at a bad time.
Our analyst Monique Vag sizes up the NBA betting lines, including pointspreads, totals and props, giving her best bets for Wednesday’s NBA action.
The Detroit Pistons are in a funk, averaging only 44.7 first-half points per game over their last three contests and are coming off a game in which they managed only 37 first-half points versus the Hornets a home Monday.
They travel to Orlando to take on a Magic team averaging only 51.9 first-half points per game at home. With both teams playing well defensively while struggling on the other end of the floor, look for a low-scoring game and bet Under the total of 207.5.
HIGH FLYING HAWKS
The Atlanta Hawks come in firing on all cylinders, scoring 126 points or more five times over their last 10 outings and have averaged 124.3 points per game over their last three. They travel to Cleveland to face the Cavaliers, who are averaging only 105.7 points per game and giving up 115.2 on the defensive end. Expect the Hawks to keep flying and find success versus a porous Cavs defense. Take the Hawks -130 on the moneyline.
SUNS RISING EARLY
The Phoenix Suns have gotten out to quick starts and are averaging a league-high 37.7 first-quarter points per game over their last three games. They play a Golden State Warriors squad averaging just 25.6 first-quarter points per game. The Dubs are coming off a contest in which they only put up 20 points in the opening frame versus the Heat.
With the Warriors struggling to score the last three games, expect the Suns to get out to an early lead and cover the first-quarter spread of 2.5 points.
HITTING THE RIGHT NOTE ON DEFENSE
The Utah Jazz have won 10 of their last 12 home games and eight of the last 10 versus Southeast Division opponents. The Jazz play the Miami Heat, who have won five of the last six head-to-head meetings versus the Jazz. However, the Heat have had some offensive struggles, getting held under 45-percent shooting in six of their last 10 games.
With Utah surrendering only 104.2 points per game on its home court and the Heat averaging 107.7 away on the road, bank on defense to be an emphasis for both squads and bet Under the game total of 217.
BRINGING SHOWTIME ON THE ROAD
The Los Angeles Lakers have won four of their last five games, shooting above 50 percent in each of their last four wins. Los Angeles clashes with a Denver Nuggets team holding opponents to 45 percent shooting on their home court and just 104.1 points against per game inside the Pepsi Center.
The last time these two teams met up Denver won in a blowout 128-104, but the two meetings prior have produced low-scoring games with the Nuggets being held under 100 points in the December 3 meeting. The Lakers were held to 99 points versus Denver at home last March. With Denver entering yet another game with a full injury report, look for Los Angeles to steal a road victory and take L.A. to cover the 2.5-point spread.
