While much of the preseason attention may have focused on Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, it can easily be argued the Chicago Sky will enjoy a greater amount of rookie production this season. Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso will define Chicago’s interior play for years to come.
But against the Dallas Wings, one particular guard may take advantage of the rookie in the post. Arike Ogunbowale will not hesitate to take shots at Reese's expense; it is how she has made her career.
Let’s back the volume-shooting veteran guard in our free WNBA picks as we dig into Sky vs Wings predictions, with tip on Wednesday, May 15, at 8:00 ET.
Sky vs Wings predictions
My best bet
Arike Ogunbowale Over 20.5 points (-125 at DraftKings)
My analysis
Maybe a few games should pass in this WNBA season before declaring this fact anew, but it was such a truth in 2023 that it would be shocking to see a change in 2024: Just about no one in the WNBA shoots more than Arike Ogunbowale does.
Last year, only three players took more than 615 field goals across the season: Breanna Stewart (680), Ogunbowale (752) and Jewell Loyd (770). The two Notre Dame alums chuck freely and frequently.
Loyd saw her roster change a good bit in the offseason, but Ogunbowale did not. She quite likely will lead the WNBA in shot attempts this year, and she will not start the season slowly in that regard.
Ogunbowale averaged 18.8 field goal attempts in 2023; she took 25 in the first game. She took at least 20 shots in Dallas’s first five games and in nine of its first 11.
She should channel that same energy tonight. Reese will eventually be half of a dynamic twin towers force for Chicago when the latter of which returns from injury. But for now, Reese will be in over her head both mentally and physically tonight.
Ogunbowale should hunt that matchup a decent amount, and the ball will be in her hands. It may not be a quality scoring night, but it will almost certainly be a quantity one.
Sky vs Wings same-game parlay (SGP)
Dallas could never become a genuine contender in 2023 because Ogunbowale’s scoring was so inefficient. If she got hot, sure, the Wings could have become something. But instead, she shot worse than 40% from the field while averaging 20.2 points.
Too often, Ogunbowale’s shooting kept opponents in games, and that just may be the case tonight, especially if Reese establishes herself in the paint on the offensive side of the court.
Furthermore, the Sky scoring two points at a time and Ogunbowale missing a pile of shots would be two ripe ingredients for an Under, even though combining Ogunbowale’s points prop with the Under inflates this same-game parlay’s payout.

Sky vs Wings spread and Over/Under analysis
- Some WNBA spreads have been available for a full week, including this one at a few books. Chicago was a 13-point underdog a week ago, a number that began ticking downward on Monday, reaching +10 on Monday afternoon before further steam this morning brought it to +8.
- Similarly, the total opened last week at 158.5, and was bet up to 160.5 on Sunday. It then largely held steady until this morning, at which point it climbed to 162 and settled at 161.5.
- In both instances, the Wednesday moves are a sign of sportsbooks finally raising the limits on this game, allowing bigger bets to start enjoying the WNBA action.
