Even at the start of the season, superstars like Kelsey Plum know how to pack the stat sheet.

The WNBA season may be young, with no one having played more than two games.

However, if you trust your instincts, that can yield quick value in some WNBA player props and WNBA picks for Wednesday, May 13.

Kelsey Plum Over 18.5 points (-120)

Kelsey Plum poured in 27 points against the Las Vegas Aces to start her season. We should probably always assume Plum will score against her former team.

Two things stood out about the Los Angeles Sparks’ leader’s output. First, she played 35 minutes in a 27-point loss. The Sparks don't have a bounty of other options on hand.

Secondly, she shot 10-for-18 from the field. Plum has not always been the most efficient scorer, and finding efficiency could unlock new levels of her offense.

Her 20-point milestone tonight against the Indiana Fever is also listed at +108, which is definitely something to consider.

Kamilla Cardoso Over 10.5 rebounds (+104)

Question the Chicago Sky's future, but don't question Kamilla Cardoso on the boards, particularly now that Angel Reese is not around.

She found 14 rebounds in the season opener despite not even playing 25 minutes, partly because it was a 15-point win.

Cardoso’s rebounding average jumped to 10.2 per game last year in 14 games without Reese in the frontcourt with her, compared to 7.6 in 26 games alongside Reese. Expect a similar number all season long, one that should breach 11 given her overall development.

Until sportsbooks adjust, tailing Cardoso’s rebounding prop should be profitable, including tonight against the Golden State Valkyries.

A'ja Wilson Under 23.5 points (+100)

Does A’ja Wilson already need rest? Of course not.

Should the Las Vegas Aces be able to give her some tonight, regardless? Of course.

The Connecticut Sun are going to have a miserable final year in the northeast. They are, in a word, bad.

Wilson is already taking rest when she can find it. She saw fewer than 24 minutes in the season opener, and then played 30 minutes in the rout of the Sparks the next night, finishing with 19 points in each game.

The four-time MVP should be on cruise control tonight, spending a notable chunk of the evening hanging out on the bench.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
