Aces vs Mercury Predictions, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Scimia's prediction: A’ja Wilson remains a dominant force, and the Mercury defense will have their hands full trying to slow her down. Expect the Aces to keep Phoenix under pressure.

Two of the WNBA best teams out west will face off on Friday night as the Phoenix Mercury play host to the Las Vegas Aces.

Las Vegas finally seems to have set the ship right over the last couple weeks, and I’m taking it to cover again tonight in my Aces vs. Mercury predictions.

Let’s see what bettors can expect from tonight’s game in my free WNBA picks for Friday, August 15.

Aces vs Mercury predictions

My Aces vs Mercury best betAces +4.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

The Las Vegas Aces spent the early part of the WNBA season floundering, going from a dynasty that had dominated the league over the first half of the decade to struggling to make the playoffs. But a recent run of seven wins in eight games has Las Vegas up to the No. 5 seed.

Other than the loss of Kelsey Plum, the other issue for the Aces seemed to be its defensive struggles. Even now, they rank ninth of 13 teams in points allowed (82.7 ppg) and defensive rating (103.8).

But Las Vegas has held opponents to 79.8 ppg during its current five-game winning streak, and has held four of its las seven opponents under the 80-point mark.

The Phoenix Mercury have watched their fast start cool a little bit over the past month, going 4-6 over its last 10 games.

The Mercury are still among the best defensive teams in the WNBA, but are going to have trouble containing A’ja Wilson who is averaging 22.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

It’s tempting to take the Aces to win outright, but with Las Vegas on the road, I’m playing it safer tonight. Let’s back the Aces with the points in Phoenix.

Aces vs Mercury same-game parlay (SGP)

Aces +4.5

Under 168.5

A’ja Wilson 37+ (Over 36.5) points + rebounds + assists

Phoenix has hit the Under in each of its last four games, and I’m pairing that trend with my bet on the Aces to cover for my SGP.

I’ll also take a shot on A’ja Wilson to hit the Over on her combined PRA total.

Wilson has gone for at least 37 in this category in each of her last four games.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
