While some top players prefer to take the week before the Masters off, others choose to tee it up in hopes of finding a competitive rhythm.
Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama, and more are all among that latter group this year, playing the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio in preparation for Augusta.
We break down the favorites, the golf odds board, and more in our full Valero Texas Open betting preview below.

Valero Texas Open picks and predictions
Hideki Matsuyama Top 20 (+123)
There’s a lot to love about Hideki Matsuyama right now and considering the Masters is just a week away, there are worse times for the 2022 Green Jacket winner to be playing as well as he is.
He went T12 at Bay Hill and T6 at THE PLAYERS after winning by three at Riviera and is returning to make his fourth straight start at the Texas Open.
Combine that form with the fact he finished T15 here a year ago and I love his chances of getting back into contention before heading off to Augusta.
Pick: Hideki Matsuyama Top 20 (+123 at BetRivers)
Corey Conners Top Canadian (+115)
Corey Conners’ two wins here at the Texas Open speak for themselves but a quick scan at the rest of this group points you to one outcome and one outcome only.
There are four other Canadians in the field this week: Taylor Pendrith (+375), Adam Svensson (+400), Ben Silverman (+500), and Roger Sloan (+850). Those four have made 17 starts since the start of March and the results are... very bad: eight missed cuts and only one finish better than T36.
Here at TPC San Antonio? More of the same. Those four have made eight combined starts to the tune of four missed cuts and nothing better than T42.
Ten of Corey’s last 12 results would have bested that T42 mark and so would all five of his Texas Open starts (T35 in 2022 being his worst). Don’t overthink this.
Pick: Corey Conners Top Canadian (+115 at bet365)
Valero Texas Open Open field and favorites
Rory McIlroy (+900) has tried everything under the sun as it pertains to his Masters preparation and after two weeks off, he's returning to play the Texas Open the week before Augusta.
He's gone T24-T21-T21-T19 over his last four starts but made strides in his approach game at THE PLAYERS. He's played TPC San Antonio twice in his career, finishing runner-up back in 2013 and missing the weekend in 2022.
Ludvig Aberg (+1,100) is the No. 2 option this week. He missed the cut in his 2022 debut but is entering the week in awesome form with finishes of T9 or better in three of his last five starts.
2021 Masters champ Hideki Matsuyama is the only other name on the board available at better than 20/1 odds and for good reason. After winning the Genesis in February, Hideki's remained in form with a T12 at Bay Hill and a T6 at TPC Sawgrass last time out. He also finished T15 here a year ago.
Two-time Texas Open winner Corey Conners (+2,200) and 2021 champ Jordan Spieth (+2,000) round out the Top 5, but while Conners is coming off a T13 at THE PLAYERS, Spieth is coming off back-to-back missed cuts.
