🔍 What I’m looking for at the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship
Yas Links is a premier desert-links-style course along the Arabian Gulf coastline. The 2010 Kyle Phillips design will play as a 7,468-yard, Par-72 layout for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship, and this will be the fifth consecutive year the track has hosted the event.
The course is a fast-running, coastal challenge where Aaron Rai and Tommy Fleetwood set the tournament scoring record of -25 (263) during a dramatic playoff duel, which Rai won last season.
Yas Links has eight holes running directly along the water, and it features generous Paspalum fairways, firm greens, and penal Fescue rough. While wind is the course's primary defense, the weather forecast calls for ideal scoring conditions this week.
Still, the fast-running fairways and firm greens will preserve an authentic links test that heavily rewards creative short games and ball-striking precision.
Key stats
- True strokes gained tee-to-green, true strokes gained on approach
- Stroke average
- Scrambling, true strokes gained around-the-green
- Birdie average, birdie-or-better percentage
🏆 Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship picks to win
Best bet to win: Adam Scott
The Aussie has six consecutive top-20 finishes dating back to his T9 at The Open Championship, and he ranks first in true strokes gained tee-to-green and on approach during the run.
Adam Scott also carded a solid T10 in this event in 2022 while gaining +1.16 true strokes on approach.
- Course fit: Third trip to the track with a highlighted solid 2022 showing
- Recent form: Ball-striking has been elite during six straight top-20 finishes
- Key stat: Pacing field in true strokes gained tee-to-green through past six events
Outright pick: Kristoffer Reitan
A proven worldwide winner, Kristoffer Reitan has been a statistical darling following his first PGA Tour season with true strokes gained across the board and a T3 finish at the FedEx Open de France.
Reitan also finished 22nd in this event last fall despite losing true strokes on and around the greens, and his short game has been a noted area of improvement since, with true strokes gained in both metrics over his past four events.
- Course fit: Elite tee-to-green play during T22 finish here in 2025
- Recent form: T3 in last event alongside top ball-striking marks since returning to Europe
- Key stat: Gained +0.89 true strokes on approach at Yas Links last year
💣 Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship long-shot picks
Best long-shot pick: Jacob Skov Olesen
With true strokes gained across the board while racking up nine top-20 finishes across his past 10 events, Jacob Skov Olesen is quietly emerging as a consistent contender.
He also finished T23 in this event last year, and Olesen is up to ninth in the Race to Dubai Rankings to reinforce the highlighted heater.
- Course fit: Respectable T23 here in 2025 without best tee-to-green game
- Recent form: Five top-10 finishes during noted 10-event heater
- Key stat: 15th in stroke average on DP World Tour
Long-shot pick: Joe Dean
The Englishman has followed up his August win in the Husqvarna British Masters with a T5 in the Open de España last time out to climb to 14th in the Race to Dubai Rankings and into the final spot to qualify for PGA Tour membership for the 2027 season.
Joe Dean is eighth in true strokes gained tee-to-green dating back to the win, and he's in his best form ahead of his third trip to Yas Links.
- Course fit: Current ball-striking form positions Dean for a career-high finish here
- Recent form: Spiked to card a win, T11 and T5 across his past six events
- Key stat: Eighth in true strokes gained tee-to-green during highlighted heater
