The eighth edition of the Bermuda Championship at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda is set, and my top golf picks are headlined by six-time PGA Tour winner Chris Kirk ahead of Round 1 on Thursday, Oct. 22.

This is a critical stop on the PGA Tour Fall Swing for the FedExCup standings, and my favorite Bermuda Championship picks don’t overlook the importance of securing a top-60 entry into the future Signature Events and a top-125 card for the upcoming 2027 season.

🔍 What I'm looking for at the Bermuda Championship

Port Royal Golf Course is a scorable coastal layout in Southampton, Bermuda, originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1970 and updated by Roger Rulewich in 2008.

Perched on cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, this stunning course plays as a Par 71 measuring just 6,828 yards, making it the shortest Par 71 on the PGA Tour schedule.

The layout features narrow, doglegged fairways, water hazards on seven holes, large, gently contoured Bermudagrass greens, and manageable Zoysia rough. Based on the scorecard, and in ideal conditions, this is an easy track with six  Par 4s measuring under 400 yards and all three Par 5s under 560 yards.

However, coastal exposure makes it one of the most weather-impacted events on Tour, and the forecast calls for the elements to challenge players again this week.

Wind gusts are forecast to exceed 20 mph early in the event and approach 50 mph by Sunday. Players with an accurate, low ball flight off the tee will be best positioned to put wedge in hand for the most frequent approach distance of 100 to 150 yards.

Finally, the difficult wind conditions will place an added emphasis on tidy around-the-green play and scrambling.

Key stats

  • True strokes gained tee-to-green, true strokes gained approach
  • Adjusted scoring average, birdie-or-better percentage
  • Proximity: 100 to 150 yards
  • Scrambling, true strokes gained around the green

🏆 Bermuda Championship picks to win

Best bet to win: Chris Kirk

The six-time PGA Tour winner is 128th in the FedExCup standings and ranks second in this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green and third on approach across his past four events.

  • Course fit: Elite tee-to-green game and proven winner in windy conditions
  • Recent form: Pair of top 10s across past four tournaments
  • Key stat: 36th on PGA Tour in birdie-or-better percentage

Outright pick: Ben Kohles

Ben Kohles is second in this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green, fourth on approach, and first in driving accuracy dating back to winning the BMW Charity Pro-Am on the Korn Ferry Tour in June. He also has three straight top 20s on the PGA Tour leading into this event.

  • Course fit: Fourth trip to Port Royal
  • Recent form: Highlighted elite ball-striking fueling solid finishes
  • Key stat: Eighth on PGA Tour in birdie-or-better percentage

💣 Bermuda Championship long-shot picks

Best long-shot pick: Trace Crowe

Trade 2.3% at Kalshi

Momentum is on Trace Crowe’s side. He’s carded a solid T38-T23-T3 run leading into this event, and he’s gained true strokes across the board while ranking fourth in tee-to-green play.

  • Course fit: Respectable T37 here in 2024
  • Recent form: Peaked three-event improvement with T3 at Bank of Utah
  • Key stat: Paced field in true strokes gained approach in last event

Best long-shot pick: Austin Eckroat

This is a long number for a two-time PGA Tour winner ahead of his third trip to the Bermuda Championship, and Austin Eckroat is also coming off a respectable T24 at the Biltmore Championship last time out.

  • Course fit: Winner on Bermudagrass at PGA National, and the coastal El Cardonal
  • Recent form: Sixth in true strokes gained approach during T24 at Biltmore
  • Key stat: 26th on PGA Tour in birdie-or-better percentage
