The Philadelphia Flyers return home on Saturday afternoon to host the New York Rangers at the Wells Fargo Center. It’s expected to be an intense game between rivals, with the Rangers as road favorites on the NHL odds board.

The Flyers got back in the win column on Wednesday night with a 3-1 victory in Chicago. Meanwhile, the Rangers have been on a roll with nine straight wins after a 5-1 drubbing of the Devils in New Jersey.

The Rangers won the first meeting by a final score of 3-1 back in November.

Which Metropolitan Division rival will come out on top today? Read on for our Rangers vs. Flyers NHL picks and predictions on Saturday, February 24th.

Rangers vs Flyers predictions

The Philadelphia Flyers got a much-needed win on Wednesday night in Chicago following a loss to the Devils in the Stadium Series game last weekend. The Flyers had some iffy moments in that game, though, with Samuel Ersson coming up big to keep the Blackhawks from coming back in the game.

The New York Rangers have been red-hot over the past few weeks to maintain their spot atop the Metropolitan Division. They’ve won nine straight since January 27th, outscoring the opposition 39-18 in that span.

A big reason for the Rangers’ success this season is the breakout campaign from 2020 first-overall pick Alexis Lafreniere. He’s been aggressive offensively, with 35 points and 150 shots in 57 games.

Lafreniere is coming off of a two-goal game in New Jersey in which he took four shots on goal. He has eight points and 30 shots in his last 10 games, including at least three shots on goal in three straight and nine of those 10 contests.

Lafreniere has been shooting a lot in general all season. Sure, he’s been held to zero shots in six games and one shot in seven more, but he’s gone Over 2.5 shots on goal in 32 of 57 (56.14%) games this season.

Lafreniere has had at least five shot attempts in three straight games and four of his last five. He’s been able to get the majority of those shots on net while playing on the second line with Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin.

We’re still getting plus odds on Lafreniere to go Over 2.5 shots on goal, and we have to take advantage.

My best bet: Alexis Lafreniere Over 2.5 shots on goal (+105 at DraftKings)

Rangers vs Flyers same-game parlay

Lafreniere anytime goal

Flyers moneyline

Under 6.5

Not only has Lafreniere been shooting the puck a lot recently, but he’s been finding the back of the net as well. Lafreniere is coming off a two-goal game on Thursday night and has five goals in his last nine games (goals in four of them).

While we’re backing Lafreniere, we’re going contrarian for the rest of the parlay with the Flyers moneyline and Under 6.5.

The Rangers’ recent winning streak has been buoyed by their goaltending and special teams. New York has a strong power play but that should be neutralized by Philadelphia’s penalty kill.

The Flyers have the seventh-best xGF% at 5-on-5 in the past 10 games (53.91%), per Natural Stat Trick, with the Rangers posting a sixth-worst 44.62% in the same span.

We’ve also seen this matchup once this season with just four goals — two in the first two minutes by the Rangers. John Tortorella has his Flyers playing a great style of hockey this season and it won’t be nearly as easy on Saturday in Philadelphia.

Let’s shoot for the moon with this nearly 29:1 parlay on FanDuel.
