Jesper Bratt ranks 13th in the NHL in assists over the last three seasons despite playing for a New Jersey Devils squad that ranked 27th in goals.
With a much-improved roster, Bratt and the Devils should have a much more potent offense — and tonight is their first chance to show it.
Let's break down my full list of NHL player props and NHL picks for Thursday, Oct. 1.

Prop pick #1: Jesper Bratt Over 0.5 assists
Jesper Bratt is one of the best playmakers in the NHL, and I like him to record an assist up to 56%.
Bratt has been wildly productive when the New Jersey Devils have been healthy. He’s piled up 20 assists over his last 20 games with Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, and Luke Hughes in the lineup, recording a helper in 14 of them (70%).
Those players are healthy. He also now has Anthony Mantha on his opposite wing. Mantha is coming off a 33-goal campaign and is the league’s most efficient finisher at 5-on-5 over the last three years.
Heavily favored against a Philadelphia Flyers team that was blown out last night, this is a generous price for Bratt.

Prop pick #2: Anders Lee Over 1.5 shots
I’m on Anders Lee to record at least two shots, and would back him to 67%.
He averaged 2.4 shots on goal per game a season ago while clearing this line 72% of the time against Bottom-12 shot suppression teams, which the Chicago Blackhawks are a safe bet to be.
More importantly, he is all around the net and being spoon-fed shots playing alongside an elite young duo in Dylan Guenther and Logan Cooley.
Lee appeared in two preseason games with those players and recorded six shots on 12 attempts, trailing only Guenther in the latter. He also generated a team-high nine scoring chances.
Lee lives in the high-danger areas and will get plenty of looks with his new running mates.

Goal scorer pick: Leon Draisaitl
Leon Draisaitl let us down last time out, but I’m going right back to the well. I’d back him to 54%.
Draisaitl did everything but score in his first game against the Vancouver Canucks. He tilted the ice, generated 11 shot attempts, eight scoring chances, and five shots on target. He just couldn’t buy one.
That is abnormal, especially against weaker opponents. Draisaitl scored in 72% of his games last season when the Edmonton Oilers were -150 favorites or more against a Bottom-12 defensive team.
I expect a bounce-back from Edmonton after a disappointing loss, and Draisaitl should lead it.
