The Vancouver Canucks can be the first team in the NHL to crack the 100-point plateau if they can beat the visiting Los Angeles Kings on Monday night.

The Kings are holding steady in the playoff picture and are the third seed in the Pacific. They've reeled off three straight wins and four in their last five.

Vancouver has won three in a row as well. The Pacific Division leaders are -130 moneyline favorites in the NHL odds tonight.

Read below as I break down this matchup and share my free Kings vs. Canucks NHL picks, complete with my best bet.

Kings vs Canucks predictions

The Los Angeles Kings rank middle in the pack in scoring at 3.11 goals per game, but they’ve picked up the pace in the last three. Their latest was a 4-3 OT win over the Lightning, with Vlad Gavrikov playing hero with the overtime winner. Adrian Kempe assisted on the winning goal while tallying his 22nd of the campaign to open the scoring.

L.A. drubbed the Blackhawks 6-2 and blanketed the Minnesota Wild 6-0 in its previous two wins, with the Kings averaging 5.33 goals per contest over those three games.

Their bread-and-butter continues to be a stingy defense, which surrenders just 2.54 goals per game, a Top-3 mark in the NHL. That includes the best penalty kill in the league at an impressive 85.6% rate.

That’s a pretty good mirror job of the NHL-leading Vancouver Canucks, who rank fifth in the NHL in scoring at 3.51 goals per game and are coming off a 4-2 win over the Flames.

Vancouver is also right behind L.A. in an impressive fourth in the league in goals against (2.63) and has allowed two goals or fewer in eight of its last nine games. That includes five games with Thatcher Demko on the shelf, as the beat has gone on with Casey DeSmith.

This will be the third of four meetings between the clubs with the teams splitting the previous two: the Kings beat up the Canucks 5-1 on Feb 29 with Vancouver responding earlier this month with a 2-1 OT win.

Surprisingly, these teams have not crossed their total in the last 10 head-to-head matchups, with the Under going 9-0-1. Considering how well these sturdy defenses are playing, this has the makings of a low-scoring, playoff-like battle.

My best bet: Under 5.5 (+100 at SIA)

Kings vs Canucks same-game parlay

Under 5.5

J.T. Miller anytime goalscorer

Kevin Fiala anytime goalscorer

Since joining the Canucks, JT Miller has consistently produced when facing the Kings. The forward has points in 11 of 12 meetings. While that includes only three goals, he did score in the most recent head-to-head, netting the game-winner in overtime.

He also connected on his 34th goal of the year last time out against the Flames, snapping a three-game goal-less drought after ripping off three in his previous four. I like him going back-to-back against the Kings.

Let’s add a little bit of a longshot here with Kings winger Kevin Fiala. The 27-year-old has goals in two of his last four, upping his total to 23 on the year — the fifth time he’s tallied at least 23 in a season.

Fiala also had a goal and two assists against the Canucks in that 5-1 win, and had a two-goal game against these same Canucks in 2022 while he was a member of the Wild. Here’s betting that scoring touch comes to life at Rogers Arena.

Kings vs Canucks moneyline and Over/Under analysis

Vancouver has been as short as a -150 favorite on the moneyline but that number has moved to the -130 range. L.A. has been as long as +120, though that figure has been shaved down to as short as +105.

The total hit a ceiling of 6 but has been reduced to 5.5 across the market. We’ve already mentioned the teams have yet to crack an Over in the last 10. The Kings have an Under record of 42-25-3 while Vancouver has seen the Over go 36-30-5 in its games this season.
