Hurricanes vs Oilers Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Don't Look Now, Edmonton is Rolling Again

Despite an abnormally slow start from three-time Hart Trophy winner Connor McDavid, he's returned to form over the last two weeks and the Oilers offense has certainly followed suit. Against a generous Hurricanes defense, we expect McDavid & Co. to thrive.

The Edmonton Oilers skate into tonight’s contest on a season-high four-game win streak and will look to push their run to five when they welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to Rogers Place.

Connor McDavid has been a huge reason for Edmonton’s recent success, collecting 13 points during the team’s win streak — tied for the NHL lead since the run began on November 24.

Will the Oilers captain propel his team to a fifth straight victory tonight? Find out in our Hurricanes vs. Oilers free NHL picks for Wednesday, December 6.

Hurricanes vs Oilers predictions

A few weeks ago, most had written off Connor McDavid’s chances at another Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s top point scorer, but the Edmonton Oilers captain has caught fire with 13 points in his last four games to climb up to 29 points in just 20 games this season, now ranking seventh in the league in points per game (1.45).

McDavid was a multi-point machine through most of November, collecting three multi-point outings in his last four games and five in his last nine after posting only three two-point performances through his first 11 contests of the season.

It’s not yet clear who will get the start in net for the Carolina Hurricanes but both options certainly look good if you’re betting on McDavid.

Antti Raanta owns a 3.33 GAA and an .859 SV% this season, allowing at least three goals in five of 11 appearances, while Pyotr Kochetkov has a 2.83 GAA and an .811 SV%, giving up 3+ in four of his 10 games.

The Hurricanes haven’t been the same defensive juggernaut as in past seasons, largely due to those goaltending woes, ranking tied for 17th in the NHL in goals against per game (3.21).

Carolina has also floundered on the penalty kill at just 77.2% (21st) — an area that McDavid and the Oilers can certainly exploit with their sixth-ranked power play (26.6%).

That said, I’ll look for McDavid to collect Over 1.5 points tonight as my best bet.

Hurricanes vs Oilers same-game parlay

Leon Draisaitl anytime goalscorer

Over 6.5

Oilers team total Over 3.5

McDavid’s multi-point game isn’t available for this same-game parlay so we’ll switch our attention to another Oilers star and take Leon Draisaitl to score.

Draisaitl has been making hay on the power play with four power-play goals in his last four games, while seven of his 10 markers this season have come on the man advantage. Against a weak Carolina penalty kill, he should have a good shot at finding the back of the net tonight.

I’ll round out the parlay by taking the Over on 6.5 total goals as well as Over 3.5 goals for Edmonton. The Oilers have scored 4+ goals in three of their four games during this win streak, highlighted by an 8-2 throttling of the Ducks.

Edmonton has scored 4+ goals in seven of its last 10 games so this could be a high-scoring battle.

Hurricanes vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Hurricanes and Oilers opened at nearly identical NHL odds for this one, coming in at -104 and -108, respectively, making this matchup a true pick ‘em.

There’s been plenty of movement on the line ahead of puck drop, though, with several books making Carolina the road dog at +100 and Edmonton shifting up to -120.

I’m still not quite sold on the Oilers but I think this should be a good matchup for them given the Hurricanes’ weak goaltending and penalty kill, so I’ll take Edmonton to extend its win streak tonight.

The Oilers have converted on a whopping 46.7% of their power-play chances since the start of their four-game win streak with seven goals on 15 opportunities. If McDavid and Draisaitl get a few more chances tonight, they should be able to run up the score against whichever netminder the Canes put out there.

The total was set at 6.5 goals and I like the Over, largely because of Edmonton’s offense. The Oilers are averaging 5.00 gpg during their win streak — the most of any team in the NHL over that span. The Hurricanes have also been a strong offensive team this season, scoring 3.38 gpg to rank tied for eighth in the league.

We’ve talked a lot about Carolina’s defensive woes but Edmonton has been even worse, allowing 3.59 gpg this season to rank fourth worst in the NHL. We should see plenty of goals if those trends hold steady.
