Devils vs Rangers predictions
The New Jersey Devils took down the New York Rangers in the first round of the playoffs last year, but the two franchises have gone in different directions since then. The Devils were then dispatched by the Hurricanes in five games and haven’t lived up to their lofty expectations this season.
New Jersey is well on the outside looking in of the Eastern Conference playoff picture which led to Tyler Toffoli being traded at the deadline. That’s not a good sign for a team that entered the season with Stanley Cup aspirations. Injuries have hampered the Devils but so has their goaltending, which they attempted to rectify with a few additions this week.
The Devils are just 31-29-4 this season and 16-12-2 on the road. They’ve lost the first two meetings against the Rangers this season — both in New Jersey — 5-3 in November and 5-1 just a few weeks ago.
While the Devils have been struggling to get in the playoff picture, the Rangers are trying to hold off the Hurricanes for first place in the Metropolitan Division. New York is 41-18-4 this season which includes an impressive 22-8-0 record at MSG.
The Rangers shook off the rust of four days off to beat the Blues 4-0 on Saturday night with deadline addition Alex Wennberg contributing a point.
Perhaps the most important player for the Rangers is their goaltender, Igor Shesterkin. He's been stellar since the All-Star break, going 8-1-1 with 18 goals allowed and a .948 SV% in 11 games.
Mind you, five of those 18 goals came in the Stadium Series game with wonky sightlines for goalies, so Shesterkin has allowed 13 goals in his last nine indoor hockey games. That’s pretty good.
The Devils are just hoping to build something to feel good heading into an important offseason while the Rangers are gearing up for what they hope to be a long playoff run. This line is disrespectful to a Rangers team that is a much better squad and already flexed its muscles over the Devils twice this season.

Devils vs Rangers same-game parlay
The Rangers are our best bet on the moneyline and the puck line could very well be in play too, covering the -1.5 in both wins against the Devils this season. The Rangers have defeated the Devils by 2+ goals in five straight victories and seven of their past 10 wins over NJ.
New Jersey has allowed 4+ goals in each of its last seven losses during a 3-7 stretch. The Devils were held Under 2.5 goals in five of those losses as well.
Meanwhile, the Rangers have scored 4+ goals in three of their last four wins while routinely holding the opposition to one or two goals — especially with Shesterkin in net.
The Devils haven’t been able to keep games close and the Rangers will have no problem piling it on against their rivals.

Devils vs Rangers moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The odds haven’t moved much at all since opening. The Rangers are between -154 and -159 with the Devils around +130 across the board.
The total hasn’t moved much either with a 6.5 set across all books. You can get Over 6.5 (-105 via BetMGM) and Under 6.5 (-110 via DraftKings).
This is the first half of a back-to-back for the Rangers so keep an eye out for goalie news. Shesterkin has been great but so has backup netminder Jonathan Quick (13-5-2, 2.45 GAA, .916 SV%).
The Devils’ starter is also up in the air but that shouldn’t matter as much.
