Devils vs Maple Leafs Best bet: Max Domi Over 0.5 assists (+210)
The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming off a 4-3 loss to Seattle over the weekend, forcing coach Craig Berube to bring out the lineup blender.
Playmaking winger Max Domi is the big beneficiary of the lineup adjustments as he moves up from the third-line to the top line alongside Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies.
Domi is a prolific passer who has had success with Matthews in the past. They’ve played over 200 minutes of 5-on-5 hockey together since Domi joined Toronto, which has resulted in Matthews scoring 26 times in that span, with Domi assisting on 22 of them.
The underlying numbers suggest it’s a good pairing as well. Domi and Matthews average 3.35 xG/60 when on the ice together through their careers, by far the highest among all forwards Matthews has played with over the last three years.
So I’m expecting some offense tonight from the Leafs, especially since their old coach is on the other bench.
Additionally, Matthews loves scoring on the Devils. He has eight goals in his last seven games against them. He’s a worthy bet at +115 to score an anytime goal, but the value lies with Domi getting an assist at +210 now that he’s his linemate.
Devils vs Maple Leafs same-game parlay
I’ll take a Matthews anytime goal for the second leg of my SGP. He has eight goals in his last seven meetings against the New Jersey Devils and should be sparked by Domi joining his wing.
For the final leg of the SGP I’ll also continue to bet on the Leafs offense showing up tonight and take Over 2.5 goals. The Devils are without starting netminder Jacob Markstrom, turning to Jake Allen, who has allowed 22 goals against Toronto in his last five appearances against them.
The Leafs also average 3.67 goals per game, going 4-2 to the Over.
