Evan Bouchard is one of the best volume-shooting defensemen in the league, and he’s starting to heat up, having produced seven points over his last six games.

My Blackhawks vs. Oilers predictions are banking on Bouchard firing away against a Chicago defense that bleeds shots to his position.

Let’s take a closer look at my NHL picks for Saturday, November 1.

Blackhawks vs Oilers prediction

Blackhawks vs Oilers Best bet: Evan Bouchard Over 2.5 shots (-130)

Shooting the puck is one of Evan Bouchard’s best traits, and he hasn’t shied away from doing so thus far.

Bouchard ranks 8th among defensemen in shot attempts, 8th in expected goals, and 6th in shots on target through 12 games.

That puts him in direct company with the likes of Cale Makar, Zach Werenski, Rasmus Dahlin, and super-rookie Matthew Schaefer.

He should have plenty of opportunities to pile up the shots Saturday night against the Chicago Blackhawks.

They are giving up nearly 30 shots per game, a whole bunch of which are coming from defensemen. No team has allowed more shots on goal to the position than the Blackhawks.

Chicago is also taking a lot of penalties, spending more time short-handed than all but the Bruins and Jets on a nightly basis.

Bouchard is just a couple of shot attempts behind Leon Draisaitl for the team lead in power play volume.

His shot is a focal point on the man advantage, and the Edmonton Oilers can probably look forward to more power-play time than they usually get.

After a few quiet shooting performances against strong shot suppression teams, look for Bouchard to record 3+ shots tonight.

Blackhawks vs Oilers same-game parlay

Connor McDavid recorded at least two points in more than half of his home games last year. His hit rate soared to 64% when isolating victories in Edmonton. That’s noteworthy as the Oilers are nearly -300 home favorites in this game.

Connor Bedard has averaged exactly three shots per game and cleared this line in six straight. Last season he went over his total 71% of the time when attempting 5+ shots, a number he’s hit in each game during this streak.
