Minnesota brings the NFL’s top pressure differential and a five-game Under streak into Detroit, creating value on both the spread and total.

My Vikings vs. Lions prediction leans on Minnesota’s disruptive defense and a matchup that looks tighter than the line suggests.

Detroit is laying 3.5 points at Ford Field on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. ET, with the total set at 46.5. Minnesota swept last season’s series, and my NFL picks see value on both the spread and total.

Early Vikings vs Lions spread pick: Vikings +3.5

Give me the Minnesota Vikings at +3.5, playable down to +2.5.

If home-field advantage is worth roughly 1.5 to 2 points nowadays, this number feels too high.

Minnesota also won and covered both meetings with the Detroit Lions last season, and I like the Vikings even more this year.

According to RBSDM.com, Minnesota owns the better net early-down EPA per play, which matters because first- and second-down efficiency is more predictive, with a larger sample of plays and the full playbook available.

The trench edge stands out, too. The Vikings have the NFL's best quarterback pressure differential, according to Pro.NFL.com.

If the Vikings can pressure Detroit while keeping their own quarterback clean, they have a real path to staying inside this number.

Early Vikings vs Lions total pick: Under 46.5

It's Under 46.5, down to 45.5, or pass, with Minnesota boasting the best defense in football and riding a streak of five consecutive Unders.

The Vikings are allowing a league-best 12.3 points per game and have forced 11 takeaways, the second-most in the NFL.

Their offense isn't helping totals, either. Minnesota is averaging just 20.8 ppg, ranking 23rd, while also playing at the slowest pace in the league.

Detroit's defense also gets a boost with safety Brian Branch back in the lineup. Fewer possessions and Minnesota's defensive prowess give this Under a clear path to cashing.

My prediction: Lions 23, Vikings 21.
