NFL Preseason Week 2 roster notes for Friday, Aug. 21

Jets at Steelers

Geno Smith (ankle) was a late scratch last week, but it appears as though he will play for the Jets tonight. However, he'll have far less than his usual complement of running backs.

Breece Hall (groin) and Isaiah Davis (knee) are both out, meaning Braelon Allen is the No. 1 option at RB, followed by a host of "depth" options.

Steelers veteran QBs Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph will not suit up, so the unproven Will Howard and Drew Allar will split the game under center.

Panthers at Jaguars

It's preseason for the coaches too, so Jaguars head man Liam Coen is getting his "coachspeak" reps in.

Coen said he's "trending toward" letting Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville starters play tonight, but that will definitely merit closer investigation as game time draws nearer.

Panthers HC Dave Canales was decidedly less cagey with his mid-week plans, declaring that Bryce Young and the first-team offense will play.

Packers at Broncos

Bo Nix will see his first game action for the Broncos since getting injured in last year's postseason, although he could be limited to as few as 14 snaps.

Jordan Love is also expected to start for the Packers, although it might just be a cameo appearance, followed by an off week in Week 3.
