Who will win Jaguars vs Saints: Saints -1.5
Both Liam Coen of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kellen Moore of the New Orleans Saints have stated clearly their starters won't participate in Saturday’s game.
Looking at the depth charts, the Saints hold the edge. QB Spencer Rattler gives them an advantage offensively compared to Nick Mullens and Carter Bradley for the Jags. If Alvin Kamara gets reps for the Saints, that gives them an even larger leg up.
There’s also a lot more competition at wideout for the Saints. Rattler was hitting quite a few deep passes against the Jaguars this week in their joint competition, and Moore is likely to use this as an opportunity to see who steps up behind Chris Olave.
The Saints looked extremely dominant during stretches of that joint practice, especially when running the ball. I expect that to carry over to the actual game.
Jaguars vs Saints Over/Under pick: Under 35.5
The total for Saturday’s game keeps creeping down, and it makes sense since neither team will run starters out.
But the joint practice this week is another reason why I’m still expecting a low-scoring affair. It starts with the pass-rush units for both sides, which will look to put an end to promising possessions.
The Jaguars field quite a bit of depth in the edge-rushing department, but they likely have one player too many. That means we’re going to see a few guys looking to stand out against a Saints offensive line that isn’t very deep.
On the flip side, the Saints looked outstanding defensively against the Jaguars. The Saints rushed the passer quite well last season, and they registered six sacks in Thursday’s practice, with a few others that were not whistled dead due to practice rules.
Thursday night was a great example of how offenses struggle to put together consistent drives without the starters, and that trend isn’t one to be ignored with the personnel groupings available for this game.
