Eagles vs Buccaneers Predictions - Early Picks & Odds for Week 4

We're leaning Bucs +3 but would really like the half-point hook added on before fully backing the underdogs. Instead, this game could turn into a barn-burner, making the Over appealing on the 44.5-point game total.

Someone will have their unblemished record tarnished when the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4 of the NFL season.

Both teams come into this huge NFC showdown at 3-0, and bookmakers have Tampa Bay as a field-goal underdog at home to the defending Super Bowl champs.

Here are my early Eagles vs. Buccaneers predictions and NFL picks for Sunday, September 28.

Eagles vs Buccaneers predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Eagles vs Buccaneers spread pick: Tampa Bay +3

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have come out on top in three very tight games, winning those opening contests by a combined six points. The Buccaneers nearly let a victory slip away against the New York Jets in Week 3, blowing a 23-6 lead in the fourth quarter to escape with a 29-27 win.

All eyes are on Mike Evans’ troublesome hamstring after he left Sunday’s game with what the team is calling a “tweak.” Tampa Bay has been the walking wounded for those first three games, but could have fellow WR Chris Godwin and top OL Tristan Wirfs back for Week 4.

The Buccaneers defense has done a great job stuffing the run to start the season, ranking No. 1 in EPA allowed per handoff and No. 2 in success rate allowed per run. That comes in handy against the Philadelphia Eagles’ run-heavy sets and could force the home team out of its comfort zone on Sunday.

I’m leaning toward the home dog getting healthier, but would really love the half-point hook on the Bucs before getting my action down.

Early Eagles vs Buccaneers total pick: Over 44.5

If Tampa Bay can slam the door on the Eagles’ ground work, that forces Philly to do damage through the air. Philadelphia did just that against L.A. on the weekend, with Jalen Hurts passing for three touchdowns as the Rams wrapped up the run.

The Bucs have been susceptible to potent passing games and have allowed nine passing plays of 20 or more yards so far this season, despite playing some pop-gun attacks like Houston and New York.

The Tampa offense is among the league's elite, owning a Top-5 spot in EPA per play and EPA per dropback. With Wirfs back in pass protection and Godwin giving Mayfield another option, I could see this one turning into a shootout. Mayfield excels vs. zone coverage, and the Eagles run a lot of zone in the passing defense.

The Buccaneers hung 33 points on the Eagles at home in Week 4 last season, with that game going Over the closing total of 43 points.
