Early Cardinals vs Chargers spread pick: Chargers -9.5
The Los Angeles Chargers have a Top 5 quarterback (Justin Herbert) and coach (Jim Harbaugh) in the league. Los Angeles won 11 games in each of Harbaugh's first two seasons and are a legitimate contenders in the Super Bowl odds.
The Arizona Cardinals have a Bottom 5 quarterback (Jacoby Brissett) and coach (Mike LaFleur) combo. Granted, this is LaFleur's first head coaching gig, but he wasn't a highly coveted candidate this offseason. Arizona's 4+ total wins market at Kalshi is the nearest to a 50/50 probability of all the options.
The Chargers have strangled inferior teams in the Harbaugh era. Since 2024, LAC is 12-2 straight-up and 11-3 against the spread vs. teams with a 40% winning rate or worse. The Cardinals would need to go 7-10 this season to clear a 40% winning rate, which would be a miracle.

Early Cardinals vs Chargers total pick: Over 47.5
The Chargers lost former defensive coordinator Jesse Minter this offseason, who was hired by the Baltimore Ravens to the replace Jim's brother, John. In Minter's two seasons as Jim's DC, the Chargers ranked sixth in defensive EPA/play, per RBSDM.com. So, LAC's defense could regress this season, or least having growing pains early in a new system.
Also, the Cardinals were an "Over team" last season, going 10-7 Over/Under with a +3.1 margin on the total. Most of their scoring was done in garbage time when the game was pretty much decided. That's what I'm banking on here: Los Angeles rolling and Arizona scoring meaningless points in garbage time.
