Early Miami vs Clemson spread pick: Clemson +16.5
I lean toward the Clemson Tigers +16.5, down to +14.5, because they still have a top-20 roster by team talent composite rating, per 247Sports.com, while the Miami Hurricanes haven't proven they deserve this price against a quality opponent.
Wake Forest (#58) is the only team Miami has beaten that ranks inside ESPN college football analyst Bill Connelly's top 100 in SP+, and the Hurricanes failed to cover as 13-point favorites in that 33-20 win.
Clemson's underlying metrics are also muddied by its 51-10 loss to LSU. Since then, the Tigers have won three straight and outgained those opponents by 88.3 yards per game.
This is the ultimate buy-low spot on Clemson, which has rarely been a home underdog during Dabo Swinney's tenure, let alone caught more than two touchdowns.

Early Miami vs Clemson total pick: Under 46.5
There is a little value in the Under 46.5, down to 45.5, because Clemson can't stay on the field, which should allow Miami to control the pace. The Tigers rank 124th in third-down conversion rate, while The U is tied for 104th in offensive seconds per play.
More importantly, both offenses will have to matriculate down the field, which eats up the clock. Per GameOnPaper.com, Miami ranks in the third percentile in rushing explosiveness and the 46th percentile in passing explosiveness, while Clemson's defense ranks in the 83rd and 97th percentiles at preventing explosive plays in those areas.
There are similar explosiveness advantages for Miami's defense against Clemson's offense, making quick-strike touchdowns less likely.
