Iowa State vs Kansas State Week 0 predictions

Iowa State vs Kansas State best bets

Clemson Iowa State +3.5 (-115 at FanDuel)

Few things are more reliable in September (or, in this case, August) than a proven and experienced offensive line. Betting on an underdog of more than a field goal with the better offensive line is rarely a bad idea.

Add in the more veteran quarterback, and taking the underdog here makes even more sense.

That will be the most crucial matchup in Dublin, one of the top two defensive lines in the Big 12 facing an offensive line returning 106 starts. An unstoppable force vs. an immovable object is always a delight.

The edge in the trenches lies with the Iowa State Cyclones on both sides of the ball. Catching that hook past three with that edge is delightful value.

Clemson/Miami Under 50.5 (-105 at FanDuel)

Some would argue that both teams are void of any real weapons on the offensive side of the ball.

Both defenses return key members from last year, and with Kansas State boasting an inexperienced offensive line, and Iowa State missing their top two receivers from last year, defense could very well in out in Dublin.

Add in the fact that three of the last four games in Dublin have gone Under their totals by an average of 8.67 points, and you should have yourself a winner on the Under.

Iowa State vs Kansas State prop pick

Clemson Avery Johnson Over 51.5 rushing yards (-114 at FanDuel)

In 11 games last season against Power 4 opponents, Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson rushed for 52+ yards on seven occasions. That includes a 64-yard day against Iowa State on 13 carries.

With Iowa State replacing all three starters on the defensive line, there will be some growing pains up front. Kansas State also must replace two All-Big 12 starters on the offensive line, which means we may see Johnson scrambling a bit more.

The Cyclones managed fewer than 20 sacks last season. That makes it more likely that Johnson can prevent negative plays when he runs, and getting 52+ rushing yards is extremely attainable.

Iowa State vs Kansas State TD pick

Clemson Rocco Becht anytime TD (+220 at FanDuel)

Redshirt junior quarterback Rocco Becht returns as the starter for the Iowa State Cyclones for a third season. Becht really showed improvements in his scrambling ability last season from his freshman season. He went from 63 yards rushing in 2023 to 318 yards last year.

Becht lost two massive targets to the NFL from last season in Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins. Without those two, Becht will likely rely on the run game a bit more.

If he continues to improve his running ability, he will have a great shot to find the endzone with his feet against the Wildcats.
