The Connecticut Huskies will look to run their winning streak to 16 games as they host Big East foe the Providence Friars on Tuesday night.

The Huskies should be able to keep winning, but the massive spread has me taking the Friars to cover in my Providence vs. UConn predictions.

Let’s break down what bettors can expect from tonight’s matchup in my free college basketball picks for Tuesday, January 27.

Providence vs UConn prediction

Providence vs UConn best betProvidence +15 (-110)

The UConn Huskies are ripping through the Big East this year, posting a 9-0 record in Big East play this season.

But while the Huskies once again look like the class of the conference and a strong pick to go deep in the NCAA Tournament, things haven’t been nearly as easy as the team’s record suggests.

Each of Connecticut’s last three wins – and four of the last five – have come by single digits, a stretch which includes a 103-98 win at Providence on January 7.

The Huskies generally prefer to play slower, lower-scoring games, with their elite defense holding opponents to just 63.5 ppg. It’s a recipe for plenty of wins, but doesn’t generally lend itself to blowouts.

Meanwhile, the Providence Friars have been struggling in conference play, losing five of its last six games. But the Friars do have one thing in common with the Huskies, as they’ve been playing almost exclusively close games.

In their last nine outings, only one Providence game ended with a double-digit spread, a 97-84 loss to the Xavier Musketeers.

On paper, a 15-point spread makes sense in this game, but conference play has shown that these Big East rivals are all but certain to play closer than the talent gap suggests. I’m taking the Friars to cover tonight.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
