Neither the Minnesota Timberwolves nor the New York Knicks are off to the starts they wanted following their respective Conference Finals appearances last spring. Both at 4-3, there is no need to panic yet, but scuffling for another couple of weeks would become a worry.

My Timberwolves vs. Knicks predictions and NBA picks expect Minnesota’s supporting cast to step up at tip at 7:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, November 5.

Timberwolves vs Knicks prediction

Timberwolves vs Knicks best bet: Jaden McDaniels Over 13.5 points (-114)

There is some instinct to ascribe Jaden McDaniels’ scoring surge to Anthony Edwards’ absence, and assuredly, there has been some impact. But McDaniels scored in the season opener alongside Edwards, too. Plus, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ biggest star might not return tonight.

With or without Edwards, there is a bounty of reason to believe McDaniels’ offensive assertiveness will continue, leading him to clear this prop for the fourth time in five games.

McDaniels’ offensive development was one of the most underappreciated aspects of the Western Conference last season. Even in the postseason, McDaniels produced on the half of the court where he is supposedly lesser, clearing this prop in eight of 15 games while shooting 51.5% from the field and 38.2% from deep.

He is shooting even better, 46.2% from deep and 53.8% from the field. Edwards’ possible return should not doom those rates, and at those rates, trusting McDaniels to score should be a profitable approach for a while.

Timberwolves vs Knicks same-game parlay

Julius Randle has cleared this assists prop in five of seven games this season, increasingly the Timberwolves' playmaking hub regardless of who joins him in the starting lineup. By no coincidence, Minnesota has hit the Over in five of its seven games this season, Randle's influence felt more offensively than defensively.

Our "from downtown" SGP: Minny moneyline appeals

If Edwards does indeed return to Minnesota's lineup after a week-plus absence with a hamstring worry, then there should be inherent value to the Timberwolves on the moneyline. All indications as of early afternoon suggest Edwards will play tonight, though that has not been confirmed.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
