Wednesday NBA Picks: Jazz Can't Stop Playing

The Utah Jazz are by far the NBA's best spread bet right now, creaming opponents to the tune of a plus-13.8 average margin over an 18-2 ATS run.

Move over Brooklyn Nets Overs, there's another best NBA betting trend that wants some attention. That’s right, the Utah Jazz are not only arguably the best team in the NBA right now, but are on one of the best ATS streaks in recent memory.

Yes, the Jazz have been covering spreads with ease for the last month and a half it seems, but will that trend continue when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers as 4-point road favorites?

We break down the betting markets for that game and more with our best free NBA picks and predictions for Wednesday, February 17.

NBA picks for today

New York Knicks vs Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic have lost their sparkle. At least on offense anyways. The Magic, who weren’t an offensive juggernaut to begin with, have been ravaged by injuries, and getting buckets has been a big problem. And just to make things worse, they’ll now play one of the best defensive teams in the NBA – the New York Knicks.

The Magic are already down Cole Anthony, Aaron Gordon, and Markelle Fultz for tonight’s game, while Evan Fournier, James Ennis, and Al-Farouq Amin are all questionable for this matchup. Poor Nikola Vucevic

But seriously, the Magic are averaging just 103.3 points over their last nine games, and are shooting a league-worst 42.3 percent from the floor over that span. They’ve also scored 105 points or fewer six times in those nine games. The Knicks are well equipped defensively to keep that trend going.

New York ranks third in the NBA in defensive rating, and are tops in scoring defense and opponent field goal percentage, while also plodding along at the NBA's slowest pace. They may be close to Disney World, but it’s hard to imagine Orlando making any magic happen here.

PREDICTION: Magic Team Total Under 103.5 (-110)

Portland Trail Blazers at New Orleans Pelicans

Oddsmakers may have gotten wise to our Gary Trent Jr. prop bets, as we've seen the Portland Trail Blazers’ shooting guard's points total rise from 15.5 at the beginning of February to 19.5 for tonight’s matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans. So, we’ll have to alter our plans a bit.

Since stepping into the starting lineup for the injured CJ McCollum, Trent hasn’t been afraid to let it fly from deep. The Blazers’ guard is attempting 8.9 threes per game, hitting on 45.8 percent of his attempts. The crazy part is he keeps getting better.

Over his last eight games, Trent is averaging 4.0 made threes per game on 47.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Now, his made threes total for this game is 3.5 and he has only gone over that number in half of those eight games. But he has no less than three makes over that span and is going against a Pels defense that ranks 28th in the NBA in opponent 3-point shooting percentage. So, with the Over 3.5 at even money, just like an open look from deep for Trent right now, this is too tempting to pass up.

PREDICTION: Gary Trent Jr. Over 3.5 Made Threes (+100)

Utah Jazz vs Los Angeles Clippers

The Utah Jazz can not only make the argument that they’re the best team in the NBA at the moment but the best bet as well. The Jazz are a ridiculous 19-1 SU and 18-2 ATS in their last 20 games and will look to stay hot when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday night.

The Jazz are only laying 3.5-points in this matchup and right off the bat, that doesn’t feel like enough. Yes, Mike Conley is expected to miss another game with a hamstring injury, but Paul George is out for the Clippers, while Kawhi Leonard is questionable to play. And once again, we only have to lay 3.5-points.

For years, the Jazz’s laurels have rested on defense, and this year is no different. They rank second in defensive rating. But it’s the massive step forward on offense that has been a big difference. During this insane 20-game run, the Jazz also rank third in offensive rating.

And it’s not only that the Jazz are beating teams, they're beating the living snot out of them. Utah has an average margin of victory of 13.8-points over that stretch. Did we mention you only have to lay 3.5-points already? Against a team without one and maybe both of their best players? We did. Good. Go bet it.

PREDICTION: Jazz -3.5 (-110)
