NBA sharp money and line movement report
By Patrick EversonScorching-hot Utah, which has been a game-winning and spread-covering machine since Jan. 8, opened -6.5 at PointsBet USA, peaked at -8 this morning, then crept back down to the -6.5 opener this evening before inching to -7. "Fifty-four percent of bets and 57 percent of handle on the 76ers," PointsBet USA's Patrick Eichner said of point-spread action as of 6:30 p.m. ET. The total moved from 227.5 to 228 early, then dipped to 225.5 and is now 226. "Sixty-two percent of bets on the Over, but heavier money on the Under, to the tune of 63 percent."

The Jazz not only have the best record in the NBA, but they are also tops with a 20-7 ATS mark. They will finish up a stretch of eight consecutive games versus Eastern Conference teams, which they've handled with ease. Utah has gone through a collection of the East's better squads in each of its last four games—beating and covering against the Miami Heat, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, and Indiana Pacers.
Record-wise, the 76ers will be the best of this recent batch and they will have star Joel Embiid, who was listed as questionable with back tightness. It goes without saying, but having Embiid able to suit up is huge for a 76ers team that's 1-4 without him on the season. Philadelphia is 17-5 with the MVP candidate and his near-30 points per game in the lineup.
Philadelphia plays much better at home, entering this matchup 5-8-1 ATS on the road and with a 5-6 record SU against teams over .500—compared to a mark of 13-3 versus sub-.500 teams. The 76ers have lost three of their last five and one of those wins came against a Brooklyn Nets team that was without both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Utah will have a letdown game soon but it's hard to overlook the fact that the Jazz are 11-1 ATS in their last 12 home games and are feasting on everyone. When they win, they typically cover. And they win often.
PREDICTION: Utah -7.5 (-110)
Over/Under pick
Utah gets it done on both sides of the ball, which could help explain why it's only 12-15 O/U on the season. The Jazz are sixth in the NBA in points per game (115.0) and rank third in points allowed, surrendering 105.7 per contest. They've held opponents under the league-average mark of 111.9 points per game in nine of their last 12 contests, hitting the Over in six of them.
The 76ers, meanwhile, are similar in that sense, ranking in the Top 10 in both points scored and allowed per game, and both teams are Top 5 in defensive efficiency and opponents' field goal percentage.
Utah is one of the best teams in the league at limiting opponents from deep, while the Sixers rank 28th in 3-point attempts per game, so Philadelphia isn't likely to do much of its scoring from the outside which will cap its total upside.
Even if the Jazz are rolling from deep as they are accustomed to doing – they are shooting 39.2 percent from long range on an NBA-high 42.3 attempts per game – these two strong defensive teams should each buckle down after having the night off going into this outing.
Throw in the fact that the Jazz are 23rd in the NBA in pace, and it would probably suit them just fine to slow this game down and win a lower-scoring defensive battle.
PREDICTION: Under 226.5 (-110)
Player prop pick
Mike Conley will miss his fifth straight game which means Joe Ingles is eyeing down another start and 30-plus minutes of action. Ingles has two 24-plus point games sandwiched between a pair of single-digit efforts since Conley has been sidelined, but the Jazz trust him enough to start and take on heavy minutes and he's responded by averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.5 rebounds over the four-game stretch.
He's averaging 7.8 shots from deep since he's been inserted into the starting lineup and is converting at a 45.2 percent clip (his season mark of 44.4 percent is a career high). His increased usage coupled with the uptick in long bombs for a 3-point-happy Utah team gives Ingles a decent shot to blow past his season average of 11.3 points per game while Conley remains out.
Handling the ball alongside backcourt mate Donovan Mitchell for one of the NBA's top offensive teams puts Ingles in a position to rack up assists, and he dished out totals of 6, 5, and 6 over his last three contests.
Look for Ingles to remain a steady presence in the Jazz starting lineup and pile up the counting stats until Utah's starting point guard returns.
Prediction: Joe Ingles Over 17.5 Points + Assists (-122)
