The Tampa Bay Rays are short home favorites against the New York Yankees, and I’m laying the small moneyline price.

Shane McClanahan’s ground-ball profile is the key separator against a Yankees lineup that still relies on lift and power.

Here are my Yankees vs. Rays predictions and MLB picks for Wednesday, July 8.

Who will win Yankees vs Rays today: Rays moneyline (-116)

I’m backing the Tampa Bay Rays moneyline and would play it to -130.

This series has been tricky, but after going 2-0 on sides, I’m staying with the same matchup logic. Shane McClanahan’s expected ERA hints at some second-half regression, but the New York Yankees are not the team I expect to expose it.

McClanahan owns a 75th-percentile ground-ball rate, while New York carries an above-average 28% fly-ball rate and 10.0% barrel rate.

If he drags their lift-based offense onto the ground, Tampa Bay has the cleaner path.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Cole is no longer missing bats at peak levels: his 20.6% strikeout rate meets a Rays lineup with an 85.7% zone-contact rate.

Yankees vs Rays Over/Under pick: Under 7.5 (-121)

While I'm quite close to market consensus, I like the Under here.

We've already talked about the ground-ball success for McClanahan and why a floundering Yankees offense is likely to struggle to score against him.

His 9.3-degree average launch angle allowed are built to limit the kind of elevated damage New York needs and has needed even more since the BaBIP has plummeted post Aaron Judge injury.

On the other side, Gerrit Cole is not peak Cole, but Tampa is more contact-driven than explosive.  I expect him to have a strong outing. Play to -130.
