The San Jose Sharks (47%) have played some barn burners at home to start the year, with seven or more goals in two of three games.
My Bruins vs. Sharks prediction is that we'll see another high-scoring affair against the Boston Bruins. That's why I'm looking to first-liner Will Smith to pick up a point in my top NHL picks for Oct. 13.
Bruins vs Sharks prediction: Over 6.5
I’m on the Over to 51%.
The San Jose Sharks remodeled their blueline over the summer, but they added more salary than substance.
They remain an underwhelming defensive team, ranking 28th in expected goals allowed per 60 and 31st in expected goal share —only ahead of the winless Flyers.
Boston’s offense can certainly take advantage. It has produced a healthy 3.3 goals per game despite two-way star Charlie McAvoy missing each of the first six games ahead of his debut tonight.
The Macklin Celebrini-led Sharks are always potent offensively, and averaged 3.5 goals at home following two days off last season.

Bruins vs Sharks combo
I’m combining Over 6.5 goals with Will Smith to pick up a point and Celebrini to find the back of the net.
Smith has been much more productive at home than on the road since the start of last season, and he scored in seven of his last nine games after two days off.
Celebrini is an elite chance generator and has an outstanding track record after two days of rest. He scored 14 goals over 16 games under those circumstances last year.
The two correlate at 5-on-5 and on the power play, and Boston’s penalty kill has conceded expected goals at the 10th-highest rate.
Bruins vs Sharks combo
- Over 6.5
- Will Smith Over 0.5 points
- Macklin Celebrini anytime goal scorer
TOP PICK
Bruins vs Sharks player prop: Will Smith Over 0.5 points
I like Smith to find the scoresheet up to 60%.
He picked up three points in his first game of the season but has gone pointless since, largely because Celebrini has been out for multiple games — and is now back healthy and anchoring the top line.
The surrounding circumstances are perfect for Smith to get right. He’s at home, where he picked up a point in 61% of his games a year ago. He’s working on two days of rest and has 11 points over the last nine when he gets that.
Smith was also born in Lexington, Mass., and played at Boston College. He may have a little extra pep in his step against his hometown team.
Bruins vs Sharks goal scorer: Macklin Celebrini
The Sharks juggled their lines and put Celebrini with Smith and Igor Chernyshov.
That trio meshed well last season, controlling nearly 55% of the xG share and tilting the ice despite playing on a poor 5-on-5 team.
They should help get the best out of those guys at full strength, while Celebrini sits tied for first on the Sharks in power-play shots despite playing in only three of their five games.
Add in the rest factor, which is especially beneficial with Celebrini returning from injury, and there’s a lot to like.
