The New York Yankees will have the pitching advantage on paper, and as Chris Hatfield explains, that should be the difference maker in this critical Game 2.

The ALDS continues with Game 2 between the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.

Toronto came out firing in Game 1, taking control as Luis Gil struggled on the mound and Kevin Gausman kept the Yankees offense in check.

Now, it’s Game 2, and my Yankees vs. Jays predictions have the Bronx Bombers fighting back to even the series.

Yankees vs Blue Jays Game 2 predictions

Who will win Yankees vs Blue Jays Game 2

The New York Yankees. I’m trusting the decisive pitching advantage that New York has in this matchup

Yankees vs Blue Jays best bet

Yankees moneyline (-150)

I predicted this series would be 1-1 after two games before it truly began, and I’ve seen nothing to change that opinion — especially given who the Toronto Blue Jays are sending out.

I’m high on the long-term trajectory of Jays' rookie Trey Yesavage, but this is a difficult assignment at this point in his career.. The sample is small, yet what data we do have shows a concern with hard contact. If he qualified, his hard-hit rate would sit in the bottom 10th percentile of the league. Combined with a fastball-slider-heavy arsenal, that’s the exact profile the New York Yankees lineup has consistently punished. It’s an angle we’ve leaned on successfully all year, and I see no reason to deviate here.

Opposing him will be Max Fried. Starting him in this spot was always the plan, but it also signals how important getting a win in this spot is for New York.. I expect Fried to deliver — not just because he’s Max Fried, but because the matchup fits. His two regular-season starts against Toronto were mixed, but the underlying data favors him. The Jays’ biggest offensive strength is avoiding strikeouts, yet Fried doesn’t rely on them to record outs. Instead, his elite hard-contact suppression (90th percentile) gives him the edge.

If he maintains that ability to limit quality contact, the Yankees should control this game and send the series back to New York, even at one apiece.

Yankees vs Blue Jays Game 2 same-game parlay (SGP)

I think this outing for Yesavage could be relatively short for a variety of reasons, whether due to performance or a quick hook, so I’m comfortable taking him under on strikeouts.

I’ll pair that with Ernie Clement to record a hit, as he not only has the low ground-ball profile you want against Fried but also some prior success facing him. Finally, I’ll round it out with Daulton Varsho to go hitless, as his track record against the Yankees ace is poor and, as a barrel-reliant hitter, he’s likely to struggle against someone who generates soft contact at such a high rate.

Yankees vs Blue Jays SGP

  • Yankees moneyline
  • Trey Yesavage Under 4.5 strikeouts
  • Ernie Clement Over 0.5 hits
  • Daulton Varsho Under 0.5 hits

Yankees vs Blue Jays home run pick for Game 2

Ben Rice (+500)

For now, rookie Trey Yesavage doesn’t have a very extensive pitching arsenal, so you more or less know what you’re getting. What you’re getting is a heavy fastball and slider combo; two pitches that Ben Rice ranks in the top 20 percentiles of hard-hit rate against.

  • Run line: New York -1.5 (+110) | Toronto +1.5 (-130)
