The Kansas City Royals have allowed a total of four runs to the Chicago White Sox in three games and will seek a series sweep today.
Our White Sox vs. Royals predictions think the low-scoring trend in this series will continue.
I explain further with my MLB picks for Thursday, May 8.
White Sox vs Royals prediction
My White Sox vs Royals best bet: Under 8 (-105 at Caesars)
Despite the Kansas City Royals' success, they’re nothing close to an offensive juggernaut, as they currently rank next to last in the majors in runs scored at 3.14 per game.
However, they are among baseball’s best in pitching. Their 2.99 team ERA is first in the American League, and second only to the New York Mets, overall. They’re inside the Top 6 in both WHIP (1.19) and batting average (.228).
KC turns to lefty Kris Bubic to complete the sweep. He’s 3-2 on the year with a 1.98 ERA.
He’s coming off a gem vs. Baltimore, throwing five innings of four-hit ball, allowing no earned runs, and striking out three. It’s the second time in three starts he’s kept the opposing offense at zero.
From the good vibes near the top of the AL Central to the basement, the Chicago White Sox are reeling, with the worst record in the AL at 10-27.
They’ve been absolutely shut down in this series, scoring just four runs over the three games. It’s been a problem all year, with the ChiSox ranking 27th with 3.44 runs per game.
They’re hoping Davis Martin can help them salvage a win in this series. He’s 1-3 with a 3.52 ERA and coming off a no-decision against Houston where he allowed eight hits over five innings, giving up three runs.
Bubic still gives the Royals an advantage in the pitching category, but Martin can hold his own enough to keep the total low.
The Royals have been getting just enough offense in this series, and Bubic should be able to work with whatever his offense gives him to set up KC for the sweep.
But because there’s just not enough juice to take an outright win, we’ll stick with the total.
These teams haven’t topped eight runs in any of the previous three games — heck, only 13 runs have been scored in the series — and the Under has hit in eight of the last 10 head-to-heads.
White Sox vs Royals same-game parlay (SGP)
We’ll target Bubic’s strikeout total for one leg of our parlay.
While he hasn't cleared this number in two straight, it’s not from lack of stuff. Before this mini drought, Bubic had at least six strikeouts in four of his previous five starts.
The White Sox are also a Bottom-10 team in strikeouts, which makes this a great chance for a Bubic bounce back.
We’ll wrap with Bobby Witt Jr., who drilled his fifth homer of the year in Wednesday’s 2-1 win. Witt has had a hit in every game this series, and he’s had at least two total bases in three of his last four games.
