Shohei Ohtani has stacked up 17 total bases through the first five games of this series.
However, he’s been quiet since his two-homer performance in a historically long Game 3. Win or lose, Ohtani should be able to make some noise at the plate in tonight's do-or-die Game 6.
Let’s break down the Shohei Ohtani odds with my MLB picks for Friday, October 27.
Shohei Ohtani prop pick
Shohei Ohtani best bet: Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 total bases (-115 at BetMGM)
Shohei Ohtani went bananas in the marathon that was Game 3, recording 12 total bases and hitting a pair of homers.
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider walked Ohtani time after time following his game-tying home run in the 7th inning and, in his following media availability, suggested that would be the plan going forward.
That hasn’t held. Ohtani has stepped up to the plate eight times over the past two games and was walked only once, which was not intentional.
The Blue Jays have pitched to Ohtani. They will likely continue to do so in Game 6, barring Ohtani coming up in an obvious walk situation.
If he’s going to get a handful of real at-bats, he has a good chance of going Over this total. Ohtani averaged 2.4 total bases per game in the regular season and has upped it to 2.9 in the playoffs.
He is making excellent contact with the ball. Isolating Kevin Gausman’s pitch mix, Ohtani has posted a 97.6 miles per hour average exit velocity and 32% barrel rate over his past 25 at-bats.
Ohtani has also managed a career .312 ISO against Blue Jays relievers so he’s certainly capable of making noise when Gausman exits the game.
Shohei Ohtani same-game parlay
Yoshinobu Yamamoto has averaged one earned run allowed over his past 10 starts. One. He has held his opponents to one run – or blanked them entirely – in eight of the past nine games and is coming off a complete game against the Blue Jays.
With the Dodgers playing for their season, Yamamoto should be pulled if and when he runs into any sort of trouble. There is little chance Dave Roberts leaves him out there long enough to give up three, if that even appears a possibility at any point.
The Dodgers have scored just three runs over the past two games, and Yamamoto rarely gives up any damage, so this is unlikely to be a high-scoring affair.
