After an offensive outburst in a win over the Boston Red Sox on Friday, the New York Yankees will step up to their rival’s best pitcher on Saturday.
We’ll explain in our Red Sox vs Yankees predictions why this matchup could suit the Yankees, and how a lefty of their own could make his mark on this one.
Without further ado, let’s hand out some MLB picks for Saturday, June 7.

My Red Sox vs Yankees best bet: Yankees ML (-110 at FanDuel)
Against all odds, Ryan Yarbrough has finally found a team capable of transforming him into the effective pitcher we all once thought he might be. Things are going so well that he’s been stretched out as a starter, and who can blame the New York Yankees?
The lefty has pitched to a large complement of friendly fly balls with a low barrel and hard-hit rate, and he’s managed to come home with a 24.7% strikeout rate next to a solid 6.8% walk rate. He’s getting it done on contact with incredibly low exit velocity numbers, and he’s managed to keep the ball in the zone without getting torched.
Now, the further issue is that the Boston Red Sox don’t hit fly-ballers very well. They have the fifth-best OPS in the split this season, compared to the 20th-best in the reverse. This is a story that transpired a year ago, as both of these teams ranked near the top of the league against ground-ball pitchers.
Speaking of which, that’s the type of contact that Garrett Crochet is yielding. He’s done so with numbers that are just as friendly as Yarbrough’s, only his extreme whiff and chase rates have brought him into that elite tier of strikeouts at over 30%.
New York has hit lefties well – leading baseball in wRC+ -- and while the Red Sox have done this as well their numbers against ground-ballers should really hurt them here. New York has also lowered its strikeout rate in the last week and continues to walk, which Crochet has been burned by before this year.
Overall, this one should be very low-scoring, but the Yankees represent one of the best offenses in the league over the last two weeks and are in a great matchup against a ground-ball arm. Boston’s in a bad spot and ranks in the bottom half of the league offensively in the last 14 days. The choice is clear.
Red Sox vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)
We’ll take a big swing here and go with Ryan Yarbrough to punch out six. The fact of the matter is that the Red Sox are not only up over 23% in strikeout rate to lefties this year, but over 25% in the last two weeks. That’s terrible, and Yarbrough has struck out seven or more now in two of his last three starts, including five punchouts against the stingy Dodgers.
Then, I love backing Cody Bellinger, who’s got five hits in as many games, including a home run on Thursday. He hits ground-ball pitchers very well traditionally, and against Crochet he’s 2-for-2 lifetime with two no-doubt hits including a home run.
There may not be many hits in this one, but with Bellinger swinging a hot bat and going for two or more total bases in back-to-back games, I like his chances.
