The Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians are tied 2-2 in the ALCS, but the pitching and bullpen advantage now swings in one direction.
My Rays vs. Guardians predictions back Tampa Bay behind Drew Rasmussen after Cleveland burned through seven pitchers on Saturday, while Parker Messick makes his 35th start at a career-high workload. The card also targets Junior Caminero’s power and Messick’s strikeout ceiling.
Here are my MLB picks for Sunday, Oct. 18.
TOP PICK
Rays vs Guardians prediction: Rays moneyline

Play to 58%.
Drew Rasmussen gives the Tampa Bay Rays the cleaner combination of strike throwing, contact management, and bullpen support in this swing game. His 2026 profile finished in the 99th percentile in pitching run value, and 87th in expected ERA.
He also struck out seven without issuing a walk over six innings against the Cleveland Guardians in Game 1. I felt the Rays were a little unlucky to lose that one, as their bullpen let them down in the later innings. I don't expect a repeat of that.
Parker Messick’s full-season profile is excellent, ranking in the 85th percentile in xERA and 88th in barrel rate. The concern is his current condition.
He is at a career-high 198 innings and has walked eight while allowing 20 baserunners in 11 2/3 postseason innings. Also, his super power of soft contact induction is less effective against a Rays team that plays small ball so well.
Tampa Bay has more command certainty from its starter and a cleaner path, after a helpful postponement Friday, once the game reaches the bullpens with a rested group.
Who will win Rays vs Guardians?
Rays: Tampa Bay will win Game 5 and return home leading the series 3-2. The Rays have the cleaner path through the middle innings if this becomes another one-run game.

Rays vs Guardians combo
Yandy Diaz owns a .300 career average against left-handed pitching. Even better, his low strikeout rate works well here. One driven ball can clear his total-bases line against Messick.
Jo Adell is a clear matchup fade. Rasmussen allowed a .227 xAVG and .343 xSLG while walking only 4.8% of hitters, allowing him to challenge Adell before using his cutter and slider to expand the zone.
Adell’s inconsistent production against right-handed pitching makes two combined hits, runs, and RBIs an aggressive expectation.

- Jo Adell Under 1.5 hits + runs + RBI
Rays vs Guardians home run prediction: Junior Caminero
Junior Caminero’s power profile fits Messick’s approach. The Cleveland left-hander throws his four-seamer 42% of the time, while Caminero has produced a .654 xSLG and 63.7% hard-hit rate against four-seam fastballs this season.
Caminero also carries a 50.3% overall hard-hit rate and 13.1% barrel rate. Messick’s secondary options become considerably more vulnerable when he moves away from his fastball and changeup, with opponents slugging .615 against his slider and .735 against his curveball.
Caminero can attack the fastball early and still has a favorable damage profile if Messick turns to a breaking ball while behind in the count.
Quinn Allen is also grabbing shares in Caminero clearing the fences with his favorite Game 5 home run predictions.
Rays vs Guardians player prop: Jose Ramirez Under 1.5 total bases
Jose Ramirez’s reputation is doing more work in this number than it should, even at a juicy price.
He slugged .324 with a .112 ISO against right-handed pitching, while his 4.1% barrel rate left fewer clean paths to extra bases. Rasmussen is built to squeeze that weakness.
He allowed a .227 xBA and .343 xSLG, kept hitters to a 33.8% hard-hit rate, and walked only 4.8%, letting him attack Ramirez without falling into leverage counts. Rasmussen’s cutter-sinker combination is designed to turn his contact into routine outs.
Ethan Diamandas has selected three more Rays vs. Guardians player props, including Jonathan Aranda's H+R+RBI market.

Rays vs Guardians weather
Clear conditions are expected at Progressive Field, with temperatures in the low 60s and almost no chance of rain. A south-southwest wind around 10 mph should carry toward the outfield, providing modest support for the Caminero home run pick without creating an extreme hitting environment.
