The Texas Rangers and New York Mets are trending in opposite directions as the visitors look to complete the weekend sweep this afternoon at Citi Field.
New York’s offense has been virtually nonexistent during the club’s eight-game losing streak, and that’s a big reason why my Rangers vs. Mets predictions and MLB picks for Sunday, September 14 like the Under.
Rangers vs Mets prediction
Rangers vs Mets best bet: Under 8 (-115)
It was more of the same for the New York Mets on Saturday as the offense came up short in a 3-2 loss to the Texas Rangers, giving the hosts their eighth straight defeat.
The Mets have averaged a mere 2.5 runs per game during their skid, and I expect that trend to hold in today’s series finale.
Today’s pitching matchup will do the offenses no favors, as the Rangers will send out Jacob Latz. The career reliever has transitioned nicely into the rotation for Texas, posting a 2.35 ERA over his last three starts after shutting out the Milwaukee Brewers for 5 2/3 innings last week.
The Rangers could have their own troubles against Nolan McLean, who will take the mound for just the sixth time in his career.
The 24-year-old has looked terrific for the Mets since debuting last month, posting a tidy 1.42 ERA and 0.95 WHIP while allowing two earned runs or fewer in each of his outings.
Rangers vs Mets same-game parlay (SGP)
Jake Burger has been eating at the plate over the last couple of weeks with hits in 10 of his last 12 games. The Rangers first baseman is batting .364 over the last seven days and should pick up at least one more hit today.
The Mets offense may have dried up, but Juan Soto is doing his best to carry his club. Soto has 13 RBI in 12 games this month and has driven in a run in four of the last five.
Rangers vs Mets SGP
- Under 8
- Jake Burger Over 0.5 hits
