With all 30 teams in action, today is another great day for betting MLB prop bets. George Springer is expected to make his Toronto Blue Jays debut, but he gets a tough first assignment as he’ll face off against a rejuvenated Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals.

And can Cincinnati Reds’ slugger Jesse Winker stay red-hot for MLB total bases prop bettors as they take on the Los Angeles Dodgers? We break down those picks and more with our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Tuesday, April 27.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Nationals Five-Inning RL -0.5 (+105)

It’s sounding like it might finally be George Springer Day for the Toronto Blue Jays as the star centerfielder is set to make his Blue Jays debut after missing the first three weeks of the season due to injuries. But his first assignment will be a tough one as he has to face off against Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals.

Scherzer has been absolutely dealing since a rocky first start of the season. The former three-time Cy Young Award winner has allowed just one earned run on nine hits, while racking up 24 strikeouts compared to just four walks, in 19 innings over his last three starts.

Next up is a Blue Jays team that hits just .219 against right-handers and hasn’t gotten a ton of production outside of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. Scherzer also made one start against the Jays in 2020 where he pitched 7 1-3 innings, shutting them out on three hits while striking out 10.

Blue Jays fans will be ecstatic to get Springer in the lineup, but this is an awful tough way to take your first hacks of the season. Bet the Nats to have a lead through five.

Garrett Richards Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-130)

Garrett Richards has dealt with injuries his entire career, and while he is trying to now rebuild that career with the Boston Red Sox, the early returns have not been great.

The right-hander is pitching to a 6.48 ERA, a 1.86 WHIP, and is allowing opponents to get on base at a .386 clip. Richards also isn’t missing many bats, striking out just 6.5 batters per nine innings, and hasn’t picked up more than four Ks in a start this season.

On top of that, he isn’t pitching deep into games, having not lasted more than five innings in an outing this season. Which is a very good thing for betting Under strikeout totals.

It won’t help that he is going up against the New York Mets, who are struggling to score runs early in the season but are patient at the dish, ranking third in the MLB in strikeouts per game. Bet the Under confidently on Richards’ strikeout total in this one.

Jesse Winker More Total Bases Than Will Smith (+160)

We wanted to keep riding with Jesse Winker’s total bases prop but with the fact that the Cincinnati Reds’ outfielder is absolutely raking, sportsbooks just set the total at 0.5 and heavily juiced the Over. That’s no fun—but we got creative and found a total bases matchup.

Winker has quietly become baseball’s hottest hitter and that didn’t stop last night as he went 2 for 5 with a game-winning dinger against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The lefty hitter has upped his average to .382, has a 1.124 OPS, and has hit safely in 15 of his 17 games played. On top of that, Winker has averaged 2.7 total bases per game this season.

On the other side, Dodgers’ catcher Will Smith is in a bit of a slump to start the year, hitting just .212 on the season — .156 over his last 10 games — and he has just two extra-base hits.

Cincy starter Jeff Hoffman is nothing to write about on the mound, but he’s started the season strong. Winker gets a tougher matchup against Walker Buehler, but he is so hot right now that this value is too good to pass up.
