Our 3 best MLB player props for Friday, August 29

Take a look at our best bets and expert analysis below.

Prop #1: Bryce Elder Over 3.5 earned runs

+110 at Caesars

It’s been a rough campaign for the Atlanta Braves in general, and that includes Bryce Elder. The Decatur, Texas native has compiled a disappointing 5-9 record and 6.12 ERA. Opponents are hitting .286 against him, and he’s also allowed 20 home runs in 22 starts.

Elder has surrendered Over 3.5 earned runs in two of his last four outings, and tonight’s start profiles to be a difficult one for him. The Philadelphia Phillies just beat Atlanta 19-4 on Thursday, behind four home runs from Kyle Schwarber. This lineup is hot.

Unfortunately, the right-hander allowed nine earned runs to them earlier in the year, and Philly is hitting .290 against him across 62 at-bats. It could be another long night for Elder.

Prop #2: Nick Castellanos anytime HR

+500 at Caesars

This one may seem risky, considering Nick Castellanos is batting just .198 in August. He also got the day off on Thursday, likely partly due to his struggles at the plate. But if there were any time for the slugger to break out and find his stroke again, it would be tonight.

Castellanos is one of the hitters in the Phillies’ lineup who has terrorized Elder. He’s 4-for-8 lifetime, and all four of those hits have left the ballpark. Castellanos has 16 home runs this season, and two this month.

As previously mentioned, Elder does struggle with the long ball at times, allowing nearly one every start. The last time he faced Philly? They smacked three round-trippers. Castellanos will undoubtedly be back in the lineup this evening, and he could make Elder pay – again.

Prop #3: Shane Bieber Under 1.5 earned runs

+110 at Caesars

We don’t have much of a track record here because Shane Bieber just made his season debut a week ago, tossing an absolute gem. The former Cy Young winner held the Miami Marlins to one run on two hits across six stellar innings.

There’s no question that Bieber is a tremendous addition for the AL East title-chasing Toronto Blue Jays, and I’m expecting him to deal again tonight.

This will be Bieber’s first start at the Rogers Centre, and he’ll have a tough task as he faces the Milwaukee Brewers. However, he’s held them to a .211 average in the past in 38 at-bats. The support will be immense for Bieber as he takes the mound in Toronto for the first time, and that should fuel him.

Plus, the Brew Crew just lost back-to-back games to the Arizona Diamondbacks, scoring just six runs in the process. They’re not swinging it particularly well right now, and coming up against a stud like Bieber isn’t going to make life any easier.
