Even with his ERA creeping over 5.00, Charlie Morton has been able to rack up a ton of strikeouts, something we expect to continue against the Mets this afternoon.

The New York Mets head to Motown on Labor Day to begin a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

Charlie Morton may be inconsistent, but he continues to rack up the strikeouts. My Mets vs. Tigers predictions will focus on his ability to miss some bats this afternoon.

Mets vs Tigers prediction

Mets vs Tigers best bet: Charlie Morton Over 5.5 strikeouts (+105)

Charlie Morton is having a rough campaign, pitching to a 5.25 ERA across 22 starts and 28 appearances. The Orioles traded him to the Detroit Tigers at the deadline, and he’s struggled to find his best with Detroit as well.

The veteran owns a 4.61 ERA across five outings with his new team. However, no matter how much he’s struggling to get outs, the strikeout numbers are still brilliant. In 128 2/3 innings of work this year, he’s collected 137 punchouts.

He's cashed the Over in Ks in four of his five starts since coming over to the Tigers, and even finished with five strikeouts in the one outing where he was just shy of hitting the Over.

He’s also extremely familiar with the New York Mets. In fact, they have 226 at-bats against him, and during that span, he’s posted 62 strikeouts.

He’ll bring the swing-and-miss stuff no matter how well this start goes.

Mets vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

We have a steep number for my SGP, but hear me out. As we all know, Juan Soto is really starting to heat up, and he’s now cracked 35 home runs. The slugger has three bombs across his last three games alone.

Soto has an impressive track record against Morton, too. He’s 8-for-14 lifetime with three round-trippers. Morton has allowed 20 homers this season, with nine coming off the bats of left-handed batters.

There isn’t a lot of experience in Detroit’s lineup against Mets lefty Sean Manaea, but Riley Greene is 2-for-6 against him in his career.

Greene has cashed the Over in total bases in two of his last three contests as well, even going 3-for-5 on Friday against the Royals. He's batting .273 at home this season as well.
