HR picks for June 26

Bobby Witt Jr. (+230 at DraftKings)

Bobby Witt Jr. is a do-it-all player for the Kansas City Royals. He’s hitting .282 this season with just 10 home runs, but the shortstop has pop in his bat. After all, he smacked 30 homers in 2023 and 32 more last season. Witt Jr. can leave the yard at any given moment, and that could happen today.

The Royals face the Tampa Bay Rays, who send Shane Baz to the hill. He’s struggled with the long ball, allowing 14 of them in only 15 starts. Nine of those bombs have come against right-handed hitters. Witt Jr. is 1 for 2 lifetime versus Baz with a home run.

Witt has four long balls in 21 contests in June, and he’s done all his power damage against right-handed hurlers with 10 home runs. No. 11 of the campaign could be on its way this afternoon in KC.

Shohei Ohtani (+145 at DraftKings)

I had Shohei Ohtani in my picks on Wednesday, but he didn’t go deep. That being said, today’s matchup is even better for the superstar. The Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Colorado Rockies, and they hand lefty Austin Gomber the baseball. Ohtani has terrorized him, going 4-for-11 lifetime with two bombs.

Ohtani is up to 27 homers on the year, and he has two in his last three games. The Japanese slugger has 11 long balls on the road, and the Dodgers are in Denver here. While Ohtani doesn’t need elevation to leave the yard, it definitely helps.

Gomber has given up three home runs already in only two starts since making his season debut. Ohtani is batting .318 off lefties with five HRs this season. Don’t be surprised if he makes it six in the finale against a divisional foe.

Freddie Freeman (+300 at DraftKings)

We’ll jump over to another Dodgers star with Freddie Freeman. The former MVP is having a fantastic campaign, hitting .310. While his nine home runs are far below the power output we’re used to seeing from Freeman, he’s also capable of putting one in the bleachers at any moment.

Freeman has had a lot of success against Gomber as well, going 6-for-14 lifetime with two home runs. The veteran is batting .262 off southpaws with two long balls this year. As previously mentioned, Gomber has issues keeping opponents in the ballpark.

Freeman hasn’t gone deep at all in June, but today’s matchup plays in his favor. Playing at Coors Field also helps the first baseman.
