The Indiana Fever have ruled out Caitlin Clark for tonight’s matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks due to a left groin injury. Clark previously missed time earlier this season with a quad issue, raising concerns about whether a rushed return may have contributed to this latest setback.

With the Fever’s star sidelined, this game takes on a new dynamic — and presents a clear betting opportunity. Our Sparks vs. Fever predictions lean heavily in one direction given the major shift in Indiana's offensive outlook.

Sparks vs Fever predictions

My Sparks vs Fever best bet: Under 167 (-110 at FanDuel)

The usual edict of “Buy on bad news, sell on good” may not apply to Caitlin Clark and the Indiana FeverHer offense goes beyond her points, averaging 8.9 assists per game this season.

Clark's points can be replaced, as much as that thought might anger some fans.

Her playmaking, however, is simply lost when Clark is on the bench.

The Fever went a respectable 2-3 against the spread and 2-3 outright when Clark was sidelined a month ago, but four of those five games went Under their totals.

Even when including that one Over, the Fever fell an average of 11.7 points short of the totals in those five matchups.

One may worry that the adjustment has been made since Clark was ruled out Thursday morning. Before that, this total was at 173.5.

Falling to 167 is not far enough.

Again, it is not the disappearance of her points as much as it is the loss of her playmaking that should doom this total.

The Los Angeles Sparks are too lackluster to push this game Over its total on their own. They have lost four straight games, both outright and ATS, and when those totals are cracked, it is because Los Angeles’s opponents hit the gas.

Without Clark, Indiana should stay off the pedal tonight.

Sparks vs Fever same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 167

Kelsey Plum Over 19.5 points

Aliyah Boston Over 15.5 points

Combining two player prop Overs with this Under escalates this same-game parlay’s payout.

In the case of Kelsey Plum, it is simply a reflection of her volume. She has cleared this prop in three of her last five games, including one out of two games against the Lynx.

Aliyah Boston has also found a groove of late, clearing this prop in three straight games while averaging 24.7 points. That should fall off tonight without Clark setting her up, but Boston should still be near 20 points.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
