The Boston Red Sox (-180) pace the majors in runs against right-handed pitching in August, and their offense should lead the charge versus the San Francisco Giants.

The Boston Red Sox (-180) are heavy favorites against the San Francisco Giants in their series opener tonight.

The Giants have been pounded on the road (23-42) and against teams over .500 (27-41) all season. I'm backing those trends to continue with my Giants vs. Red Sox predictions and MLB picks for Friday, Aug. 21.

Who will win Giants vs Red Sox today: Red Sox moneyline (-180)

The Boston Red Sox lead the majors in OPS and wOBA against right-handed pitching this month. They're going to make life difficult on Logan Webb, whose road numbers have been tailing off when going up in class.

Webb has started four games against teams that ranked among the top 10 in batting average during the 30 games prior to facing off. He allowed at least three runs in three of those outings, posting a 5.74 ERA.

Sonny Gray ranks in the 87th percentile in pitching run value, and there's an excellent bullpen behind him.

Back Boston to -185.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Webb's 38th percentile xBA could get him into trouble against a high-contact team like the Red Sox.

Giants vs Red Sox Over/Under pick: Over 7.5 (+105)

Webb profiles similarly to Brandon Pfaadt, and the Red Sox just took him yard three times while scoring five runs over 5 2/3 innings.

His SIERA is 1.44 runs higher than Webb's ERA over the past month, a sign regression could be looming for the veteran righty.

Elsewhere, the San Francisco Giants aren’t the sexiest team on paper, but their offense has quietly been potent on the road in August, ranking among the top six in ISO and wOBA vs. righties. They should chip in enough to push this low total over the number.

Bet this to -107.

Giants vs Red Sox home run prediction: Wilyer Abreu (+475)

Wilyer Abreu continues to be a huge source of power for the Red Sox.

He ranks in the 95th percentile or higher in xwOBA, xSLG, ISO, and hard-hit rate against right-handed pitching over the last 30 days.

Webb has predictably been more susceptible to conceding homers on the road, and Abreu went for extra bases in the only two head-to-head bats we’ve seen.

Abreu is somewhat prone to strikeouts, but Webb’s 29th percentile K% should help mitigate that tonight.

Play to +440.
