The San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs will continue a three-game set at Wrigley Field tonight.

Justin Verlander's numbers may not jump off the page, but my Giants vs. Cubs predictions expect the veteran right-hander to keep Chicago’s offense at bay.

Giants vs Cubs prediction

My Giants vs Cubs best bet: Justin Verlander Under 2.5 earned runs (+115 at bet365)

On the surface, Justin Verlander's stats don't look promising in his first year with the San Francisco Giants, compiling a 0-2 record with a 4.38 ERA.

However, despite his poor record, he’s pitched relatively deep into ballgames over the last couple of weeks, making it through six innings in his last three starts.

The righty has cashed the Under on earned runs allowed in three straight outings, surrendering two earned runs last time out and just two total across his previous two appearances.

Last season, the veteran tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings against the Chicago Cubs. He’s historically dominated Chicago, giving up a mere three earned runs across 18 career innings, and this current Cubs lineup is hitting .186 lifetime against Verlander.

Back the three-time Cy Young winner to enjoy another quality start at Wrigley.

Giants vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Justin Verlander Under 2.5 earned runs

Nico Hoerner Over 0.5 hits

Mike Yastrzemski Over 0.5 hits

Essentially, nobody in the Cubs lineup has had any success against Verlander except for Nico Hoerner. He’s 3-for-3 lifetime versus the future Hall of Famer, and Hoerner happens to be swinging it well this season as well, batting .278.

Hoerner has cashed the Over in hits in three of his last four games and was 1-for-4 in the series opener on Monday. He’s confident against Verlander, so I don’t see any issues with him registering at least one hit in this contest.

As for Mike Yastrzemski, he’s in a similar boat against Colin Rea. The outfielder has made Rea’s life a nightmare in the past, going 3-for-5 with two home runs.

Yastrzemski happens to be hot right now as well. He’s hit the Over in four of his previous five appearances, boasting three multi-hit games during that span. Between Yaz's confidence and track record against Rea, this bet is a must.
