Cardinals vs Reds Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Today’s MLB Game

Great American Ball Park always plays small, especially when the wind is blowing out like it is today. With a subpar pitching matchup in store, our MLB betting picks expect the Cardinals and Reds offenses to flourish.

The St. Louis Cardinals are starting to score some runs and are in line for their sixth consecutive series victory when they face the Cincinnati Reds in the rubber game of their three-game series.

Great American Ball Park yields the fourth-most runs in baseball, and with the forecast calling for a windy day, my MLB picks and Cardinals vs Reds predictions expect the St. Louis bats to continue scoring runs on Wednesday, May 29.

Over 9.5 (-106 at FanDuel)

My analysis

After a sluggish start to their season, the St. Louis Cardinals bats are finally beginning to heat up.

The Cardinals sticks came through in a big way on Tuesday night. Their big lumber blasted a pair of bombs along with 13 hits in their 7-2 victory. They had their chances to hang an even bigger number on the Cincinnati Reds but were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

St. Louis is scoring nearly five runs per game across their past five and they have a good matchup to keep that going on a windy day against Reds starter Frankie Montas.

Montas likes to flirt with the fences; he coughed up 15 fly balls in his last start against the Padres and they responded with four early runs and nine hits across six frames.  He couldn’t get the strikeouts when he needed them, which could also plague the 31-year-old righty today.

The Cardinals must score as today’s tilt is a bullpen game for them. They’ll open with righty reliever Andre Pallante and he’s been anything but good. His sample size is small but not very encouraging; he’ll keep the ball on the ground but has surrendered seven earned runs on 14 hits across 10 frames.

The Cardinals bullpen hasn’t been any better than Pallante has. Across their last 14 games, the Cards’ pen boasts the 24th-best xFIP (4.51). The Reds offense has been inconsistent at times, but they have scored a 12th-best 120 runs at home. Cincinnati boasts a high walk rate, steal bases, and have scored 23 runs in their past five home tilts.

Look for the wind to fuel both offenses, which makes the Over a strong play today.

Cardinals vs Reds same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 9.5

Cardinals moneyline

We’ll see some runs today, but I expect the Cardinals to win this game.

The Cards have won eight of their last 10 and have a good matchup with Montas but a better one against a tired Reds bullpen allowing a dozen earned runs across their past 47 1/2 frames.

Cincinnati has played .500 ball across their last 10 and have a sub .500 home record. Look for the Cardinals to outscore their division rivals on a windy Wednesday.
