After snapping a lengthy losing skid, the New York Mets are eyeing back-to-back wins as they welcome the Atlanta Braves to Citi Field tonight.

New York’s bats finally woke up in yesterday’s matchup, and with momentum on their side, my Braves vs. Mets predictions lean towards more fireworks from the home team. That’s why I’m backing the Mets to cover the run line in this one.

Read on to dive deeper into tonight’s matchup in my free MLB picks for Wednesday, August 13.

Braves vs Mets prediction

Braves vs Mets best bet: Mets -1.5 (+105 at bet365)

The New York Mets snapped a seven-game losing streak in a big way on Tuesday, breaking out for 13 runs against the Atlanta Braves. Now the task involves trying to string some wins together to right the ship.

Tonight presents a golden opportunity as they face off against Carlos Carrasco. The former Met struggled with the New York Yankees earlier this season, and hasn’t gotten the job done in his two starts for Atlanta, either. Between his two stops in 2025, he’s put up a 6.18 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP, allowing nine homers in 43 2/3 innings.

Carrasco is probably at the end of the line, as he hasn’t been truly effective since 2022. That’s a great spot for a Mets lineup that has tons of talent but needs to build confidence after putting up a .700 OPS over the past four weeks.

New York has a clear advantage tonight with David Peterson on the mound. Peterson (7-5, 2.98 ERA) has been one of the better lefties in the majors this season, and the Braves have struggled against southpaws. I like the Mets not just to win tonight, but to cover the run line.

Pete Alonso to hit a home run

In addition to the run line, I’m also taking the Over and Pete Alonso to hit a homer again tonight. Alonso just went deep twice last night, and has a good matchup against Carrasco, as he’s been slightly better against righties historically.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
